This is for topical issues effecting our fair world... you can quit snickering anytime. Note: It is the desire of the leadership of SFDebris Conglomerate that all posters maintain a civil and polite bearing in this forum, regardless of how you feel about any particular issue. It seems a judge has struck down an attempt to replicate what Alabama did, and get abortion banned in Mississippi. That's good, for the short term. The long-term consequences are more worrisome, because it should be clear the right wing and these hardcore reactionary red states are pushing desperately to get this issue taken to the Supreme Court. And with Kavanaugh as part of that ruling body, I think it's pretty safe to say Roe v Wade will be repealed. Say goodbye to legal and safe abortions, and women's health declining in stark numbers... but of course, the left has all the power, right? Gotta bitch about those filmmakers putting ideas into movies you don't like, right?

Yeah this shit is terrifying. I am pretty worried that this supreme court would overrule Roe v Wade with the flimsiest excuse. Today I went to a protest for bodily autonomy to feel less helpless.

If it helps, hey, more power to you. And I mean that sincerely. Like you, I just feel so helpless, and the worst part is, knowing I will be vindicated.

This is surely something that should worry people. Or at least those that are sensible and have empathy and know how bad thing this really is. Those right wing nutcases seem to want days when women had no rights and they could die to childbirth back.

I know a Libertarian on Discord who'd say they aren't actively malicious, just "deeply concerned about the child," and that they are not thinking through their actions. like most politicians. Bah! I mean, let's look at who the ones pushing this agenda are. Primarily all older white men, for the most part. I know there's lots of anti-choice and even pro-life people among the population, but in the end, those calling for this are from a time they miss, their childhoods, and want to take us to precisely that because they hate modern values.

 Wow, it's really true what they say about liberals being unable to get into the heads of conservatives.

I suppose like the Libertarian I know on Discord, you will deny that this is being fueled by misogyny? To me, what separates pro-life from anti-choice are those who want to create a happy world for the child they are forcing into existence. And while I have my own opinions on abortion, I would never presume to force someone else to live their life the way I want it. Hell, I heard of a preteen girl got raped, her parents forced her to give birth to it, and it became her new sister, that those against abortion were trying to spin into some kind of victory. I won't lie, that disgusts me. But my own personal feelings aside, it was their choice, and she was so young, couldn't understand. Don't butt your nose into family affairs. And forcing women to give birth against their will is what they are into. Also refer to comments by those like Todd Akin who are literally deluding themselves into thinking women can't get pregnant from rape, or how Richard Mourdock said God sends a rapist to the woman, or how one Republican politician said that a baby conceived in hell is a "silver lining?" Or that one dude who said "some girls, they rape so easy?" It seems less like they care about the child and more they are letting out their own sexual proclivities, before immediately backpedaling because they're all Christian and think sex is bad.
