Re: Let's get down to brass tacks... (SJWs/influence in movies)
No, but calling it "radical Islam" is part of a political slant to paint a narrative that all Muslims are assholes. The key lies in the wording. If we're gonna call it "radical Islam," then why not call it "radical Christianity?" They've done just as much evil shit in the name of their beliefs, and like Muslims, the majority are not bad. "Radical Islam" is an attempt by religious bigots in the GOP to try and push the perception that most Muslims are bad. They know the most casual person would hear that, and so it takes root in your mind, and eventually you begin to think of them all as bad. Hell, look at how they opposed Obama on everything, calling him a goddamn "gay Muslim." Now, if he was a gay, or was a Muslim, that's fine, but... he wasn't, so it's character assassination, and racism and homophobia. I know lots of right of center people who try to argue Christianity was founded on something purer, more noble than Islam was, because Mohammed was a womanizer, rapist, married children, but then... is that so shocking back then? Hell, most figures who found a movement or a belief or an idea are hypocrites. Look at our own Founding Fathers. They insisted "all" men are created equal, except for women and other ethnic races, right? LIKE THEIR SLAVES. So in conclusion, "radical Islam" seems like an attempt to start a holy war by the religious right no different than those fanatical jihadists want. The same way their own fringe base like Dylann Roof wanna start a race riot and an ethnic purge. I don't understand how you can't see this.

What they have SAID is irrelevant to what they DO. If they take away rights from women and minorities, it doens't really matter if they crow "we are doing this to be more fiscally responsible!"Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 6:29 amYukaphile wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 10:55 pm Well, there was that abortion ban, recently. That's taking rights away from women. And of course, you got their language. One Republican politician said President Obama was, "Jiving and grooving." That's so outrageously racist, it's just... shocking. Yeah, maybe they're not actively trying to screw over minorities, but then, they have defended that they would not have sided with actual decisions in the past that empowered disfranchised minorities, and so you have somebody who is only going to put himself and those like him first.
Not conservatives. The hard righters. I distinguish the two.
Men can't get abortions either. I phrased my question very carefully -- when have conservatives said they wanted women or minorities treated with fewer rights or not treated as well?

Men can't get abortions either. And even where and when women can choose to get rid of their obligations to a child, men cannot.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 9:03 pmGeorgia Heartbeat bill. Then point to what they have DONE to give fewer rights to women and minorities than men and whites.

Mecha said I didn't want to look into conservatives being racist or sexist, and that I was willing to group liberals together but not conservatives.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 9:04 pmMight wanna put a car clamp on those goalposts before they roll all the fuck away.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 6:23 amSo give me the examples I asked Yuka for. To the latter, I never said all liberals are alike. I said more liberals support, by word or deed, discrimination by sex or race. So Mecha is simply wrong.
To the former, I asked for evidence. How is that not looking into conservatives being racist or sexist?

You're right, trans men are barred from getting abortions together.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 9:14 pmMen can't get abortions either. This is something which massively, on the large, decreases the bodily autonomy rights of women, especially ones who are too poor to afford contraception or travel for an abortion.
But again, you care way more about the letter of the law than its real effect on living people. As long as it doesn't say "This is to hurt women, muahahhaha" you think it's okay to weasel out of the consequences.

You seem to have a difficulty understanding what I said.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 9:28 pm This is something which massively, on the large, decreases the bodily autonomy rights of women, especially ones who are too poor to afford contraception or travel for an abortion.

Find me a law or proposition for a law or a statement by a conservative that they want a law that will reduce the rights of a woman or a member of a racial minority below that of a man or a white person. I keep saying that, but I want this interpreted as literally as possible.
You may assume that a law was passed to oppress the women but, sorry, telepathic evidence is not admissible in this case. Your assumptions as to motive are not evidence, and I can hardly believe that I actually have to point that out.

It's not about assumptions of motive, it's about consequences.
You are not reading what I say.
It doesn't matter what they SAY they intend, it's what they DO and the EFFECT it has on people. Remember the wire hanger times?
