Seems a bit steep, but he was trying to get laughs out of poking fun out of a vulnerable person. Because that's what that is, no more no less.

Well poking fun, yes. But also like inducing vomit out of a stranger. Toothpaste is very explicitly not supposed to be swallowed. I am of the mind that if he did that with a tide pod (and the guy had the least severe of reactions), then it would be far more serious of punishment.

Prank like one that he did is mean spirited and endangered target of prank. When prank endangers life of it's target it's no longer innocent prank and should be considered attempted murder. Also because target was homeless him getting healthcare in case it would had turned bad would had been 0% so punishment should be more than 15 months and $22,000 fine. Only some one who doesn't have any empathy and doesn't care about well being of other humans just like that kid can defend this.

So your original point was, that the punishment is not severe enough then?

Personally, I think it is enough, though I would not mind if the homeless man were allowed to kick that twat where it really hurts two, maybe three times per Oreo actually having been eaten. Being able to learn from your punishment is a vital component in the process of rehabilitation and without rehabilitation, punishment is nothing but vengeance and thus serves no purpose for society. This YouTube-"star" may not go to prison, unless he fails his probation, but he still has to pay 22,000€ and this is probably not a sum he just has laying around. Besides, the court also ordered his social media- and YouTube-accounts to be closed for 5 years. If the 22k fine does not hurt, this will.

P.S.: Just checked out his accounts and he is not happy with the court-decission and wants to make an appeal. Given his wording, he feels being treated unfairly, not just by the court, but the people who verbally abuse him for what he did. Funny, how sometimes your actions came back to haunt you. Maybe he learns something from this.

That's something that could have easily gone badly, so I'm not terribly sympathetic to the "prankster." What he did reminds me way too much of that exploitative bum fight stuff from the '90s. I just can't get over the attitude people like this have that makes them doing that kind of stuff to homeless people okay.

Well no, there wasn't really a point. But the funny thing being that I was trying to respond to cleaspira in the same fashion that you're doing with me. I wasn't sure exactly where the steering went.

Actually I've read that victims of attacks aren't footed with the medical bills really.

Say you're homeless. Life probably sucks. Someone comes along, apparently doing something nice for you just out of the blue. Then you find out it's a prank. Then you find out it's going online.

Target aside, it's assault against someone for the sake of a laugh. It sounds like the prankster isn't remorseful, but hopefully facing consequences will help give him some sense of limits.
