Beast Wars: Spider's Game

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Beast Wars: Spider's Game

This is episode that introduced BW version of Inferno (G1 one is Autobot with fire truck alt mode). Also interaction between Tarantulas and Blackarachnid is fun to watch considering they personalities.

Remember that one BotCon comic that tried to retcon BW Inferno and G1 Inferno as the same character? Yeah, everyone tries to ignore that.

A pretty good episode, all said. Introducing the hilariously insane Inferno with great character bit for Tarantulus, Blackarachnia, Tigatron, and Airazor, especially hinting more at Tatantulus' deeper knowledge of the threat of the Vok.

I always had a soft spot for Inferno, but really disliked how he was relegated to being just another Waspenator to make jokes over (such as being blown apart more than anyone save Wasy) and the only reliable lackey of Megatron.

What was really ignored from this episode on was how powerful the character was, which combined with his ruthless, nasty compulsions when it came to defending his colony made him really sinister. The way he goes on about burning things in the episode is a good example of that even if I can see that not exactly being something a kids show would want to go into a lot.

There's also the thing where a rivalry with Tigertron could have developed and not for lack of opportunity. When Tigertron quits sick of the damage the fighting is doing to Earth's ecosystem, it's Inferno's love of burning things that's what's more than anything else what draws him back to the Maximals and allows him to learn a reoccurring lesson in a lot of Transformers episodes (Best shown in G1's Fight or Flee): You may not like to fight, but others do and will cause mayhem and destruction for the love of it. You fight to stop them try not to go any further.

Probably has something to do with the introduction of the TransMetals in the series. You'll notice Waspinator was a (somewhat) more threatening character early in the first season, and while he was going downhill for awhile, he *really* started receiving the butt monkey treatment after Season 2.

And yet Waspinator is fan favorites and one members of Transformers Hall of Fame. So really being butt monkey can really take character far in eyes of fans. Since Waspinator and Dinobot are already part of that HoF I do wonder when next BW character voiced my Scott McNeil gets spot in that.

Still, Inferno does get some of the best, most exuberant lines in the show. Who doesn't want a job that lets them run around shouting BUUUUUUUUUUUUURN! BUUUURN IN THE FIRES OF INFEERNOOOOOOO! And, my personal favorite: For....the....ROYALTYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

Oh, and because I find this endlessly amusing, here's the official description of Tarantulas, and the comments made by a Transformers fan.

An eight-armed master of the martial arts, this ninja nightmare slashes his way through battle virtually unstoppable! The heroic Optimus Primal suspects him of being responsible for the disappearance of numerous earthlings, and recent rumors suggest the existence of giant cocoons where Tarantulas may store his unfortunate prey. He must be stopped before he spins his web of terror across the galaxy!

'Ranty's a ninja? Let's try this again:

An eight-armed master of laughing like a maniac, this mad scientist chortles his way through experiments with unholy glee! The evil Megatron knows darn well that Tarantulas' apparent insanity is a put-on, but he lets the scientist think he doesn't. He must be stopped before the viewers get too confused by all the counter-plotting!

Ah, the eternal battle of Tarantulas and Megatron. I bet even they can't keep track of which one is trying to kill the other on any given week. Still, all the plotting is fun, though we're still not entirely certain just how Tarantulas knew so much about the aliens...

Inferno is voiced by Jim Byrnes. Pronounced "burns".

I can't help but to admire BW Megatron for how intelligent he is. So much that he knows to hide what he knows when ever he needs to like when he is dealing with Tarantulas. It does really help to elevate him as villain as far as ones from 90's cartoons meant to sell toys go.

Wait, that was Joe Dawson from Highlander the Series (my favorite underrated show of the '90s)?
