Oh. Clutter.
Should I assume you wish history changed to herstory as well?
I am all for not being insensitive. But I think worrying about titles and pronouns when things like, say casting couches and similar are around is aiming away from the real problems. And diminishes the messages.
Let me go back to an earlier comment. Not seeing color. And similarly not seeing gender. In fairness would you say if someone can do a job they should get it?
Let me put it this way. You have two requirements for working in an office. Typing speed of about 40 wpm, and 80 wpm. No errors. Is this fair?
If all males must do all heavy lifting and females are not requires to lift more than 5lbs. Is that equitable? And when you insist the only man in the building must stack 150lb items by himself under that rule and hurts himself do you consider him less for going to the hospital?
Sorry if this seems an attack. But I have seen plenty of gender discrimination in both directions. And terminology seems weak compared to other issues.

Nope. History is history. Like I said, I think when you change that thing in the street to a "personhole cover," that's going too far. Did you even read what I wrote?

I did and had needed clarification. Then what was clarified seemed to go the opposite way. And you have not responded to my other questions.

Doesn't that contradict what you said earlier?
(emphasis added)Here's one thing I note about the anti-SJW crowd. They think trying to change the language means "censorship," but honestly... no one is stopping you from saying what you want. We're just trying to get you to realize the deeper implication of what our words as a society means.

No it doesn't. It's trying to raise awareness and get a social movement going as to how we think, and change how we think. And that has to be a voluntary choice, which requires time.

I see no need for such changes considering: woman, human.

But why are you stopping at the personhole? If the above is discriminatory, then the later is too. Or do we leave it as manhole, because the chances that a woman is ever going down to work in the sewers is negligable, so it's literally a hole for men? But if that is the case, then you might as well leave the chairman be, because way too few women actually want to be a chairperson.
Little known ethymological tidbit: The word "man" does not actually denote a human person of the male sex. The word "man", way back in the distant past, actually refered to "human people" without an indication of the sex. This is why words like mankind are not interpreted as "male-person-kind", but actually mean and is understood as "humankind".
The english language has, among other things, roots in the indo-german language and german is a bit closer to that precursour-language, than English is. In the german language, there still exists the word "Mensch" (read as man + sh). Do you maybe notice something? The english word "man" comes from the protoform of "Mensch" (human), just as the german word "Mann" (man). Funny thing, eh? Man literally means person, not male sexed person and this actually still stays true when you use the word "man" in a conjunction with another word. A chairman is not a man who has the chair, it's a person who has the chair.
Oh and to really blow your mind: Man does not actually come from human. It's the other way around in terms of language-history. But let's not get into too much detail, because the word "human" has a really convoluted history.

In French, feminization of words I was told is a form of distinction from the generic tense, which kinda makes "masculine" somewhat a misnomer if you were to ascribe it to a male/female dichotomy. I guess it makes sense that man can be more indicative of a human distinction that actually distinguishes a male homosapien from a male animal of another type.

Who by? The people who scream "look at me, I'm DIFFERENT!" in the face of people who couldn't care less? Usually by people who then go on to claim on one hand that everyone is equal and try to insist that the differences that make the world an interesting place don't exist on the other.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 5:20 am
Color Blindness as is in general is considered passively racist, but not for treating people equally as is put.
