Ronald Reagan Death Day

Post by Fuzzy Necromancer »

In the glorious month of Pride, we remember that Reagan died.

OMFG! You're not the only one who's celebrating this. I see poparena and his friends doing so too, and... I know he had some questionable policies, but goddamn it, taking pleasure in another human's death? I'm aghast. Let me ask this. If the basis of your "LGBT pride" is commemorating the day a human being died, what does that say about the strength and integrity of your movement? And I say this as somebody who is aware what his views on the LGBT did to increase the spread of AIDS, and don't condone it. "Beat the enemy by not becoming the enemy."

It's not the BASIS of Pride, for goodness sake. His death coinciding with pride month is just a fringe benefit/amusing irony.

I can go pretty far on the mean/petty spectrum without being as bad as Reagan. And if I manage to get the money, someday, I fully intend, once I research the legal logistics thereof, to go to his grave so I can dance on it.

Aren't you supposed to say "so much for the tolerant left"?

I remember, you said that once...

But sometimes you gotta think about your movement, and what would happen to its reputation if you... acted in a way that turned off those who might otherwise have been receptive to it, except behaving in a way that they find appalling? Always consider yourself an ambassador to everything and everyone as part of everything you believe in, every day of your life.

You say that nobody's death should be celebrated.

I think that sometimes it is acceptable to speak ill of the dead, and some graves are worth dancing over.

I celebrated Scalia's death, and I feel guilty for that now.

Naw. :) I just sit back, munching popcorn as I watch people blame others for not cleaning up their messes quickly enough.
