Re: Beast Wars: Bad Spark
This is certainly one of my favorite eps. Rampage certainly quickly being one of my favorites being this massive intelligent psychopath with a missile launcher that turns into a super king crab/tank. Oh, and he's unkillable. Certainly made for a game changing powerhouse for the Preds, certainly far more than Quickstrike ever did.
Re: Beast Wars: Bad Spark
I can think of one moment where Rampage was somewhat sympathetic with Transmutate, I think that's one more than Inferno (though I guess Inferno loyalty is commandeable)Chaos Sepher wrote: And technically would say Rampage was originally a Maximal too...

It's worth pointing out that, at this point in the series, there are only three Predacons who aren't from Maximal protoforms: Megatron, Tarantulas, and Waspinator. Even Dinobot II from the 3rd season was formed from a Maximal protoform. And of those, Quickstrike was the only one who was neither reprogrammed or coerced (as Chuck himself points out)!Redem wrote:Inferno a pretty good counterargument that Black Arachnina good moment were cause she was a maxmal protoform

Tarantulas not even a Predacon! and Waspinator wanted to quit in the last episode!Archanubis wrote:It's worth pointing out that, at this point in the series, there are only three Predacons who aren't from Maximal protoforms: Megatron, Tarantulas, and Waspinator. Re: Beast Wars: Bad Spark
What was Tarantulas by the way? Was it ever actually explained? Only thing I can recall was one time Megatron calling him "Unicron Spawn", but the delivery makes it ambiguous as to whether he meant he was literally created by Unicron or whether he was using it in the same way we'd call someone "Son of a bitch" - we don't mean their mother literally was a dog. I can recall implications that he was different to the Maximals and Predacons somehow (e.g. I think one of the change the past shenanigans has him cackle about how it won't effect him), but nothing solid.Redem wrote: Tarantulas not even a Predacon! and Waspinator wanted to quit in the last episode!

Re: Beast Wars: Bad Spark
My best guess is that Tarantulas and the Tripredicus Council were descended from a sub-faction of Decepticons that were left on Cybertron when the Ark and Nemesis were launched. Destroying the Ark wouldn't affect them, and with both Optimus Prime and Megatron gone that sub-faction could theoretically overthrow Shockwave and take over Cybertron, resulting in Tarantulas being part of the ruling government instead of a secret police lieutenant.
But then the comics came around and treated Megatron's insult literally and made him descended from Unicron. Said comics also made Tarantulas's brutal death the exact opposite of what we saw on screen, so take what you will from that.

I'll quote the best wiki in existence
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Tarantulas_(BW)
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Tarantulas_(BW)
Tarantulas's origins are a bit complicated. He declares in "Other Victories" that he and the Tripredacus Council have origins other than Autobot and Decepticon, such that they would not be affected by the destruction of the Ark. Megatron's line about "Unicron's spawn" was apparently not intended by Bob Forward to be taken literally but as a generic Transformer insult; Larry DiTillio has said Bob "regrets" the line and they never had any fixed idea of Tarantulas' origin. Larry also said that had the show continued, the characters "might" be descended from the Cybertronians.[3] A Unicronian origin also creates potential canonical issues, as Tarantulas says that "under our rule, Cybertron will conquer the universe" ("Other Victories"), whereas Unicron's goal would have been to eat Cybertron. But, much like Terrorsaur's line about "the dark side", this line developed a life of its own. Eventually this connection was reasserted in 3H Productions' Primeval Dawn storyline, initially written by... Bob Forward. On the other hand, Fun Publications' "A Common Foe" depicted a Jhiaxus/Cybertronian origin for Tarantulas and the Tripredacus Council but left the specifics a mystery.
Re: Beast Wars: Bad Spark
One opf the things I liked about this episode was that it showed how things are rocky between Dinobot and the other Maximals since his defection
Re: Beast Wars: Bad Spark
Only thing I didn't like about Rampage was that he didn't have enough time to be focused upon to flesh him out more.
There were moments and Transmutate, but it wasn't enough. Makes me wish he'd been introduced in the First Season to have allowed him that more time. Introduce him, have him go wild and off on his own to have run ins with both sides until Megatron finally incapacitates him to his spark-job torture surgery that would allow things from then after to remain on course in the Second Season.
That reminds me, was he Transmetel or not given his spark? If not then just another hurdle gone to have done all of that.

Yes, Rampage was definitely a transmetal. He looked like a robot even in beast mode and had three modes like all the others. (His third alt being a canon.)
Depth Charge was also a transmetal, though that one makes no sense. (Unless his shuttle was hit by a wave on the way in, I forget.)
