The question I bet on everyone's mind is, will this be in the same universe as Castle Rock? Given that both are produced by Warner Brothers, it's not particularly unlikely.

The Shining Pt. 2
..What mirror universe?
Re: The Shining Pt. 2
The question I have is how will they use the Hotel in this story as in the novel of The Shining the Overlook was destroyed so it wasn't included in Doctor Sleep while in the upcoming adaption, which is clearly being made as a direct sequel to the film adaptation of The Shining, how will the Overlook be used in this story.
Re: The Shining Pt. 2
I was wondering if they'd follow the Kubrick film or the more recent miniseries.
I did rather enjoy both books.

Not aware that the hotel will be involved. The shining as a twisted form of communication and source of tangible hallucinations is all I thought would be at the center of things.Winter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 5:02 am The question I have is how will they use the Hotel in this story as in the novel of The Shining the Overlook was destroyed so it wasn't included in Doctor Sleep while in the upcoming adaption, which is clearly being made as a direct sequel to the film adaptation of The Shining, how will the Overlook be used in this story.

In the book, they go back to the site of the Overlook and it's basically just some recreational/camping area with no hotel.

Oh. Well I'm sure they could film there since the Hotel is still there irl.

I do find it interesting how the upcoming film is making it clear that it is a sequel to the original film via clips from the original film, along with the iconic score of the film. On a side note I haven't read Doctor Sleep yet but I am aware that Jack's ghost comes in to help Dan at one point so how will that play out seeing that Jack was given the Adaptational Villainy Treatment in the first film before he was even possessed by the ghosts.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:16 amOh. Also will they get Jack Nicholson to reprise his role as Jack from The Shining or just recreate young Jack Nicholson via MCU de-aging CGI? Also, also will Doc Sleep bring up the whole Indiana Burial Sight thing or try to recon the whole thing and say that the origin from The Shining Novel is the true origin?

Again though paramount question is will this be in the same universe as Castle Rock
But yeah really I was wondering at least half those questions myself.

I haven't checked out CR yet, (not much of a horror fan (though I'm told I'm very good at creating horror)) but I doubt that Doc S will be set in the same continuity due to the risk of Continuity Lockout. Not everyone will have seen the show as people who watch Movies don't always watch TV so odds are good that, at most, Doc S won't mention CR and if it does, it may just be a Easter Egg that fans of the show get.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:27 am Again though paramount question is will this be in the same universe as Castle Rock

However, I do wonder if Hollywood is trying to set up a King Cinematic Universe in order to lead into a proper Dark Tower Series? Food for Thought.
Re: The Shining Pt. 2
Honestly the book lays all the groundwork there by blaming it on his alcoholism. And while it's been a while since I watched it, I don't really remember anything particularly villainous about Jack until after they'd been at the hotel for a while. It's true that Kubrick left it open to interpretation as to whether it was all in their heads or not, but the sequel could till work if it's simply taken for granted that what happened there was entirely supernatural.Winter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:24 am I do find it interesting how the upcoming film is making it clear that it is a sequel to the original film via clips from the original film, along with the iconic score of the film.
