Honestly, I'd rate it... 9/10. Putting aside the things that are purely subjective, from an objective standpoint, I'd say he's pretty much got a good head on his shoulders. It's refreshing when you see how many assholes are out there.

That is so true. Most people on internet only do it because they can get away from it and they don't have to say those things face to face. It's easy to be asshole when you can hide behind anonymity.

That is so true. Most people on internet only do it because they can get away from it and they don't have to say those things face to face. It's easy to be asshole when you can hide behind anonymity.

There's a place for anonymity and to toy around trolling on the internet. The thing that strikes me is the degree people take it, especially when it becomes vague if they're genuine or not. There are forums I frequent where arguments often contain people prodding asking which alt account I am of some other user there. I find it oddly interesting in that its yet another facet of how mistrustful and paranoid we are in our times.

One thing I don't get is people taking things where I'd consider them too far. For example, I was a newbie player killer and asshole on my Troll on Everquest back in the day, but for all the bullying and provoking I did I always kept in mind there were others behind the characters I was killing and wouldn't carry it too far. If I ran into someone I'd killed 2-3 times already within the past couple hours I'd pass them over and go looking for someone else. If my main newbie zone I hunted in was low in numbers, I'd make a sweep then log rather than keep hounding the same folks. I also knew enough about the game by the to clearly recognize people who were new to the game and still learning. I'd kill em, but do it less and find ways to help them out, like tracking down one at the end of the day and giving them loot I'd collected off of others to help their start be a bit easier.

I mention all of this because talking to others I find they're completely mystified why I'd be that way to people. To them, they'd kill, kill again and keep killing. If their victims quit then it showed how they couldn't get good at the game and showed how much better they were than others. If that kind of behaviour killed their server and game, then it was the other people's fault for wimping out, same as it is their fault for fleeing to casual MMOs that catered to them and exclude meaningful PvP.

When people are doing things online I wonder why a part of them isn't constantly reminding them of how this would look if they had it brought up in "real life" and if they would defend it or not. But I wonder that because I'm neurotic enough to have that kind of thing always hanging around my thinking. It's not like I wouldn't have indefensible stuff strewn around the Internet to dig up, but it's the sheer amount many have that I find amazing.

I was trying to host a Brood War game one time and had a runin with a B.net hacker. It wasn't too often that you see people with such power at their fingertips, but there I was. My mischief mostly involved not too obvious exploits and I would let it run its course for a bit, I'd get pretty annoying. As far as behavior, I took for granted the real life disconnect. I feel this situation was more a case of the latter condition.

I'd try to host a 3v3, then 4 of 6 people would simultaneously have "left the game," maybe started or not. I caught on not too quick and they started taunting me. I think it was maybe someone I indiscriminately booted for crowding issues, or maybe someone I cussed at in a team match. So yeah they were having their fun, as I couldn't shake them since they could ghost their name and I couldn't know who to boot (if that even worked). Eventually I leveled with them and they left me alone, but for 5 to 10 minutes I was just stuck in this frustrated moment so to speak. Thing is too that I can't really say that I wouldn't have held a grudge in the same fashion, whether whatever it was I did was deserved or not.
