What did you think of Solo's surprise ending?

Post by BridgeConsoleMasher »

Try to keep it spoiler free please for those who haven't seen it.

I liked it. Was disappointed nobody cared about the movie because I was looking forward to that at least that.

I find this relatively recent obsession with not "spoiling" movies that are older than a year perplexing. Everyone who would want to see it, would have seen it by now and thus would not care. Those who haven't watched it yet, will likely never watch it and the few who were not capable of seeing it back then, but would now, due to age for example, somehow have a monopoly on how a movie is being discussed about and need to be tippy-toed around because... reasons. If you don't want the ending of a movie spoiled to you, then maybe do not read a thread that is titled "movie's surprise ending"? Geez.

Well, I've watched most of Clone Wars and Rebels so my reaction was something like- "Oh, dammit- him again?"

My main issue is that the way his arc wrapped up in Rebels was tragic and beautiful, so it didn't take me long to realise that if they were bringing him back they were probably planning on making him the villain of the then-upcoming Kenobi movie (which I think they still plan to do, but on streaming now?), and that ruins it.

He's a really well-done and interesting villain, but he's also totally superfluous to the plot and further I don't like how close he came to Han Solo since that's just "shrinking world syndrome", where it seems like all of the key characters suddenly have a connection to each other which makes the world feel smaller.

Overall...meh. I like him, and it was nice that they brought his actor back, but it also just shows how unimaginative Star Wars can be. This is like the third or fourth time in the franchise they brought him back and it definitely grates (it doesn't mess with established canon yet, but I think if they pit him against Kenobi again it will end up doing just that).

Mixed feelings.

I agree entirely. Solo is out on DVD, its on streaming services, it is on Sky Cinema, its been on TV, its been discussed everywhere on the internet, its on several wikis. I have no problem with ''spoiling'' this film for anyone because anyone that tetchy about not having the film spoiled would have watched it by now and if you haven't what the F- are you waiting for?

And besides which, Solo is officially the lowest rated canon Star Wars film. It made money if that is what people care about, but critically this bombed. No one asked for it, no one wanted it, if they did they certainly didn't ask or want it without Harrison Ford, and it had a very ''now that's out of the way'' attitude to explaining how he got hold of his iconic gear. And SJW bot... was that meant to be funny? Was I meant to care about it at all? Was I meant to cringe as hard as I did?

TL;DR - EVERYONE who is going to see this shitty film, has already seen this shitty film.

''Shrinking world syndrome''

Hell yes. That is Star Wars' greatest problem beyond the politics. If they have any sense, after Star Wars 9 we will never hear about any of these characters ever again for at least a decade. Set it a 1000 years in the past or the future. I question whether they have the guts to do something truly original.

As things stand they have somehow made a whole galaxy seem ludicrously small.

Funny, one would think that that those that claim that movies these days are political to wrong direction would had enjoyed there being droid that's parody of what they hate. And yes, I refuse to use that certain term even ironically way it was meant to when ever I can avoid it because of how stupid term it is and how much it has been driven to ground because of overuse.

Was it a parody or was it poor execution? I think you can guess my opinion.
