You would not believe how many people try and excuse them, or justify them. On both sides. I've seen people try and claim the Soviet soldiers were "traumatized," and some who are so anti-Soviet they legitimately feel that if Hitler had "kept his promise" and only invaded the USSR, things might have gone better. That ignores the realities on both sides. Seriously. You can't make this shit up. I've seen both, often in the same topic of discussion. People, man... people...
Putting words in my mouth a wee bit, there, aren't you, Slash? I mean, I don't want to erase gender so much as gender roles and gender stereotypes. Besides, I have grander ambitions than that. That's not my only one.

How the fuck are you gonna erase gender stereotypes regarding to physical stenght exactly?
Physical strength between men and women, while perhaps notable, is still very trivial, and overall irrelevant. Unless you're dealing with a man like Schwarzenegger and a woman who's dwarf-like, which most men and women are not.

Unless there is a war, or you build a house, or get assaulted or...
Physical strength is irrelevant so much as the tools you have at your disposal. Don't make women sound like weaklings. They can fight in war, build as skilled laborers, and escape an enemy if they catch 'em by surprise, or even beat them. Ever seen Live Free or Die Hard, Lucy McClane? Yeah, picture her. Do NOT underestimate women. It's patronizing condescension.

Yeah it's not really unique. Dissolving its superconservative culture is resulting in more professional women or just less women bound to traditional maternity.
IIRC, Japan has had issues with population stagnacy in the past centuries ago.

Here's a Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographic_history_of_Japan_before_the_Meiji_Restoration#Population_during_the_Edo_and_early_Meiji_eras_(1600_to_1873)
The upshot of all this is that Japan basically stopped growing briefly between the early 18th century and the mid-19th century. Shortly after the Meiji restoration (when Japan opened up), the population had grown significantly. The brief period of stagnation can probably be blamed on Japan reaching carrying capacity at that level of agriculture, and the rise following the mid-19th century can be credited to improvements in agriculture (new crops, etc.).
