Does Star Trek and Star Wars both sucking right now bad for the traffic here?

When SFDBERIS stole back the site from the Russians i did not expect this.

This is like fucking misery for both of these important franchises.

Honestly I think forums like this are dying in general thanks to social media. I mean, I prefer forums, but apparently most people would rather discuss the same kind of stuff on Facebook.

Over all forums are no longer as popular as those used to be. It does seems to me that both modern Star Trek and modern Star Wars have helped to increase activity of this forum little bit because of divisive those are.

One of the main reasons forums are dying is overzealous mods who dictate what can and can't be said. That is less true on the likes of Facebook.

There needs to be some rules and restrictions. Otherwise people might start insulting each other and act like a-holes making forums place were no one wants to come back to. While I want to think that people in here are mature enough not to do that I don't have faith that that would be case.

Facebook is every bit as bad when it comes to modding as some of those echo-chamber forums. That's both in terms of the group mods, and in terms of Facebook itself.

I actually don't see Facebook or Twitter as a reasonable replacement for forums for internet nerds that barge on forums over the years.

Facebook is interest groups and has a horrible notification system for conversation with strangers and is just not built for a variety of topics within each page since main topic posts are in and out of your timeline, and it's not necessarily easy to get back to a post. Twitter is for shout outs in which elaboration is a special circumstance.

I think most forum goers have gone to Reddit or 4chan as they have forums for most any topic and can draw volumes of people that amounts to resourceful information posits which is a standard draw for most any forum. Facebook and Twitter aren't so much to learn things and ask questions unless you have an uber amount of followers. Otherwise media sites like Tumblr, IG, or Youtube mainly just serve as an entertainment portals that have a reasonable chat interface to waste time on, so maybe those sites took up a chunk as well.

Honestly, maybe we should just put together a subreddit? Just in case this place DOES collapse?
