Hrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmm this is awful tabloidy at the moment. Any "announcement" about Bond 25 that isn't from Barbara Broccoli at a podium in front of MGM and Universal logos, is something that should be more patiently evaluated.
But I don't really have a problem with them giving 007 to another agent. Craig's Bond has always been better on the down-and-out, it's almost exactly in character for there to be some BS scenario where he loses his licence to kill.

I get where you're getting at, but that's your only consideration?

Yeah, a lot of outrage being done for the sake of outage because a lot of people don’t understand Bond. I’m a lifelong fan of the franchise. Read all the Fleming novels.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 9:11 am For context: the plot of this film sees Bond having retired from MI6 to a bungalow in Jamaica, but is pulled back in by Felix Leiter, Bond's CIA opposite and friend, for One Last Job. Lashana Lynch is playing a new MI6 agent and the inheritor of the 007 codename, which Bond forfeited when he retired.
So, no, Bond is not being recast as a black woman and the biggest complaint I've heard outside of this forum, so far, has been that it isn't Idris Elba. Which... yeah, he would have been cool to see.
As y'all can probably guess, I'm fine with this turn.
If anything, what they’re doing is continuing a recurring theme that has been a part of Bond since the novels: Bond having to live in a world after the fall of the British Empire.
Re: The new 007 is a woman - jumping the shark moment confirmed.
So... is there any reason why they couldn't just create another 00 agent (or agents)?
Like expand the franchise to other characters? Give spotlight to new or other characters? Kind of how the new MiB film did, for example.
Hasn't Hollywood learned anything from the Fartbusters fiasco?

That’s exactly what they just did. James Bond is still played by Daniel Craig, and is still the star. Lashana Lynch is playing a new character named Nomi, who was given the 007 number after Bond quit the service in the last film.
Re: The new 007 is a woman - jumping the shark moment confirmed.
How convenient. So now they'll just call it the 007 franchise just because I suppose.

Indeed. All outrage over this is pretty much outrage for sake of outrage by people that want to be outraged on internet over everything.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 6:53 pmThat’s exactly what they just did. I'm not really a big Bond fan. What I'm gathering here is that a code name isn't tied to one particular agent? If that's the case, then I don't have any issue conceptually. Of course, execution can be good or bad. If it were James Bond himself recast as a woman, then I'd complain.
To me it looks like there's a good chance that this is much ado about nothing, just part of the set-up to bring Bond out of retirement. In the end it might be those rooting for a female 007 who are most disappointed.

Or like how a lot of Brosmins era had Bond dealing with the end of the Cold War or Craig's Era and the rise of terrorism, cyber or otherwise.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 6:53 pmThat’s exactly what they just did. Also I think some of the outrage is the press being intentionally vague for clicks. They know that '007' and 'Jame Bond' are practically synonyms, but they never specify that Lynch isn't playing 'Bond', just that she's playing '007'.
