The new 007 is a woman - jumping the shark moment confirmed.

I'm not outraged, I'm amused. I'm not even a fan of the Bond franchise, but I'm not blind, either.

I think I remember a bit of outrage when a blond Bond was announced. I see they've found a way to make that a lot less likely to happen again.

No worries. That is enough for some to consider you outraged, you'll repeatedly get accused of it and sooner or later the first articles pop up about the incels raging against women. The moment you speak out against that, you'll be labelled an incel and every post you do will be counted and the bases for another such article, until we're back at GB2016.

TND is near the bottom of my Bond rankings, but she is one of the genuine highlights of that film. She was also considered for a spin-off series. My only negative remark on her is that EON productions wouldn't allow her to do the kind of amazing/crazy stunts she was known for in Hong Kong films because of different standards in western film-making practices/policies.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 6:02 pm People don't talk about Michelle Yeoh in Tomorrow Never Dies enough.
I do wish John Woo had taken that particular film, and that they would have played more into the handover of Hong Kong like they were originally supposed to do. Instead they hired the guy known for directing TURNER & HOOCH and STOP! OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT

To be fair Michelle Yeoh is awesome in Tomorrow Never Dies but then again she is awesome in most movies she is in. It does make me wish that they would had given her that spin-off series.

The emotional stakes in TND end when Paris dies. It was a fumble.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 10:39 pmTND is near the bottom of my Bond rankings, but she is one of the genuine highlights of that film. The action in the movie is fine though really. And yeah she's a dignified Bond girl.

TND was actually my very first Bond film. I watched on pay-per-view when I was 11 years old, and right after the garage sequence I felt too bored to continue on and switched to something else. It was pretty underwhelming because I remember it being so hyped at the time it came out. It wouldn't be until many years later I would catch GOLDENEYE and that hooked me into catching up with all the other installments. TND, like INSURRECTION, became one of those movies I'd go back to thinking I may like it more if I gave it another watch but it was always just meh.
I do think the Brosnan era had the best story concepts for Bond films, but his latter three films all fell flat to a degree. And if any film seemed to have jumped the shark as the thread title implies, DIE ANOTHER DAY did that with the CGI para-surfing. Thankfully EON came to their senses right after and retooled the franchise with CASINO ROYALE.
I get that clearspira wants to see another SJW/feminist/agenda/whatever GB16 failure happen again, which CAPTAIN MARVEL didn't fulfill, so I guess he picked this one.

I really don't remember it being hyped really. I don't think that of any Bond film really, but yeah just not sure what your experience was there. I saw Goldeneye at the cinema first when I was 8. There's pretty much nothing wrong with that movie as far as modern Bond movies go, though I didn't have much of an attention span to really follow it beyond just being entertained at every scene (just like Mission: Impossible a few years later). Tomorrow Never Dies, I saw it in the theater with my friend whom I'd played a bunch of Goldeneye 64 with, and we were just like, yeah it's cool. The garage sequence though was one of my favorite parts when he reinflates the tires.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 5:22 am TND was actually my very first Bond film. It feels like two movies to me after Paris dies. He infiltrates Carver's factory and meets up with Yeoh's character, then it's just about them dealing with the whole thing. Pretty distinct imo.
I'm not a fair critic. I liked You Only Live Twice, but the older movies just seem stale to me. I did like Dalton's movies, particularly License to Kill. But I don't really remember much of the movies past nostalgia after being obsessed with the n64 game for so long. I remember seeing a bunch of them just to see Jaws and Oddjob and stuff.I do think the Brosnan era had the best story concepts for Bond films, but his latter three films all fell flat to a degree. As far as I can tell, Die Another Day seemed to kill the franchise, but people behind the scenes speculate that the likes of Borne Identity really gave the franchise at that point a run for its money. Austin Powers had already spun the series a bit to be more self conscious of its established tropes, but there's no real excuse for the surfing scene really.
Yeah I don't see this as a drastic political measure.I get that clearspira wants to see another SJW/feminist/agenda/whatever GB16 failure happen again, which CAPTAIN MARVEL didn't fulfill, so I guess he picked this one.

Re: The new 007 is a woman - jumping the shark moment confirmed.
I think the hype I felt at the time for Tomorrow Never Dies had to do with the fact that the GoldenEye N64 game had come out just a few months before, so my friends and I were kind of primed to see the new flick. I wouldn't actually see a Bond movie in theaters until much later with Die Another Day.
For what it's worth, these are my top five Bond films ranked.
1) From Russia with Love (1963)
2) Goldfinger (1964)
3) Skyfall (2012)
4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
5) Casino Royale (2006)
A lot of the films below this kind of shift around a lot, except the bottom five, which have remained firm.

Besides of Die Another Day IMO Brosnan era has some solid Bond movies with Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies being my favorites and I am still able to also watch The World Is Not Enough as well.
This might seem strange to some but way I see Dalton is that he was ahead of his time because his version of Bond is basically similar to Craig's Bond. But that's not what audience wanted back then so with Brosnan they had more familiar feeling take on character before time was right to bring in grittier take on Bond with Craig in Casino Royale.
