What the fuck is this nonsense about beards and culture wars? i don't get it.GandALF wrote:Han Solo film loses its directors: http://www.starwars.com/news/a-message- ... -solo-film
Is it bad that I kind of want them to make a mistake so that the franchise can go back to its pre-Disney semi-obscurity? Things like the non-grouchy neckbeard population touting Rey as the first female Jedi are starting to bother me.
Does it bother you that Disney will be risk averse with Star Wars?

I don't know much about culture wars but I do get a weird fuzz around my neck if I don't shave and it seems to be something I share with others who are pedantic about Star Wars minutia.Agent Vinod wrote:What the fuck is this nonsense about beards and culture wars? i don't get it.GandALF wrote:Han Solo film loses its directors: http://www.starwars.com/news/a-message- ... -solo-film

There plenty of female Jedi before Rey was my point, they just weren't as "mainstream".
the Han Solo film losing its directors is probably more notable though.

So they picked Ron Howard: http://www.starwars.com/news/ron-howard ... -solo-film
Is it going to be ok? or a mishmash of two styles?

It'll be fine, it sounds like Lord and Miller were straying to far from the script (ie having the actors improv on set and then going with that...and damn continuity), so between the dallies the allotted shooting time and reshoots the film should have a consistent tone.

Editing and other post-production stuff plays a huge role in establishing a film's tone. I have no idea where they left off filming, but I'm guessing that when it's all said and done most won't be able to tell who filmed what.
Ron Howard should be a fine choice, since he's an old, trust-worthy pro. I wouldn't be surprised if name recognition were a big factor in the hiring, to ameliorate talk of a troubled production.

You can just grab some straight to DVD directors at this point. These movies will never be truly great. Thanks Disney.ChiggyvonRichthofen wrote:Editing and other post-production stuff plays a huge role in establishing a film's tone. Not if they want someone who is going to do a good job. Ron Howard knows his stuff and is unlikely to take things in a direction not consistent with previous characterizations...or to break canon.Agent Vinod wrote:You can just grab some straight to DVD directors at this point. Ehrenreich had concerns with the production as filming progressed. He started to worry that Lord & Miller’s screwball comedy angle was starting to interfere with what the character of Han Solo is really about

Why cannot Roel Reine or William Kaufman work? The schelude is tight on Direct to DVD stuff since this not the 90s anymore. They could do it with a bigger budget.Ordo wrote:Not if they want someone who is going to do a good job. Because neither person has the body of work or nominations under their belt that Ron Howard does. Considering how much Money the Force Awakens and Rogue One made, splurging a bit on a director that has a history of producing quality work is more important than hiring a cheap replacement.

Star Wars made it clear it does not aim for the sky so it makes no difference.Ordo wrote:Because neither person has the body of work or nominations under their belt that Ron Howard does.
