So in other words you are only taking interest to this because of fake outrage so that you can be angry over nothing while missing the point.

I thought it might have been directed at me, but then that would mean my saying "I can't really say I care about this" was being interpreted as being angry.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 7:21 pmWho was this directed at? I assume me but context would be good.

Except James Bond isn't even recast.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 6:46 pm I haven't seen a Bond film in decades and I can't say I really care about this, but replacing a white straight male character with a diversity hire usually hasn't done well. The only success stories I can think of are Miles Morales and Jaime Reyes, though there might be others, and neither of those are really the tentpole in a big production.

That's why I put it the way I did, saying characters are being replaced rather than recast. Venkman, Stanz, Spengler, and Zeddemore weren't recast either, but Ghostbusters (2016) didn't work out so well. Though there were probably other valid reasons for that movie to fail.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 10:16 pmExcept James Bond isn't even recast.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 6:46 pm I haven't seen a Bond film in decades and I can't say I really care about this, but replacing a white straight male character with a diversity hire usually hasn't done well. He's not even replaced, James Bond is still in the movie. This is like if Picard retired and someone else was captaining the Enterprise, in a movie about Picard.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 11:07 pmThat's why I put it the way I did, saying characters are being replaced rather than recast. If the movie is about Bond and they keep doing Bond movies, sure, and I'll stand corrected. If Bond appears only briefly or this new actor is the 007 going forward then I think Bond has effectively been replaced.TGLS wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 11:12 pmHe's not even replaced, James Bond is still in the movie. How is it clickbait? I think this franchise has jumped the shark. Doesn't mean you can't come back from it, in fact, it has happened before. Moonraker anyone?Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 10:16 pmExcept James Bond isn't even recast.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 6:46 pm I haven't seen a Bond film in decades and I can't say I really care about this, but replacing a white straight male character with a diversity hire usually hasn't done well. But for now, we are well into go woke go broke and it amazes me just how often producers think this shit is going to make them money only to make a surprised Pikachu face when it doesn't.
