Boris Johnson is the new British Prime Minister
The man many call the British Donald Trump is in. And guess what? This is the fault of those who tried to stop Brexit because he got in on a no deal platform. We are into even more uncertain times than we were before.

No, y'all are in as uncertain times as before because it was always going to come down to either withdraw Article 50 or no deal because Brexiter demands have mutually incompatible redlines with the EU. The May deal was the best deal y'all where ever going to get and it was rejected by both sides because remain saw it as having fewer perks than staying while having many of the same restrictions, and leave didn't like they they weren't getting the unicorns they were promised.clearspira wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 11:40 am The man many call the British Donald Trump is in. So you wanted to leave the EU because it was undemocratic. How does it feel then, that all it took was 92,153 people out of ~66,040,000 citizens to get Boris Johnson as your Prime Minister, a man who repeatedly stated his intend to suspend the elected parliament in order to force a No Deal BrExit, even going so far as to force the Queen to suspend the parliament no less?clearspira wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 11:40 am The man many call the British Donald Trump is in. And no, it's not the fault of the 46,656 people who voted for Jeremy Hunt or the fault of the ~20,000 conservative members who voted for neither and it's not the fault of the roughly 49% of the people who voted against BrExit in the first place and the however many % of people who wanted a Deal-BrExit. The blame is on those, who want to force a No Deal against the wishes of the vast majority of your population and those who failed to represent those 49% of Remainers, which is essentially the entirety of your own goddamn fucking failing political establishment and Labour/Corbyn in particular.

Do i need to reiterate on why the EU is going to collapse and why crashing out early is a good idea?
Re: Boris Johnson is the new British Prime Minister
I suspect people are going to dispute the idea the EU is going to collapse.

Nigel Farage is the British Donald Trump (minus the billions of dollars).
Boris Johnson is more like the British Newt Ginrich. With less achievements.

And the idea that getting out early would be helpful, as in or out of the EU the UK's economy is inextricably tied to them so an EU collapse is going to hit them like a ton of bricks whether they are in or out of the EU, and leaving behind the EU when there is a US president that believes economics is zero sum is a fantastically stupid move, potentially locking them into worse deals than those leaving later would get.
Re: Boris Johnson is the new British Prime Minister
That's no point. Yes, there are issues with democracy in the UK (there's a very good argument that a change of party leader who's also a sitting PM should trigger a general election) but that in no way makes complaints and dissatisfaction about a lack of democracy elsewhere illegitimate. At least he'll have to face a general election in a few years (if he lasts that long).Madner Kami wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 2:20 pm So you wanted to leave the EU because it was undemocratic. Those who'll try to force no deal through, those who refuse to rule out no deal (which is just writing "SCREW ME OVER!" on your forehead), those who are desperate to do anything rather than face the results of a democractic vote to leave, those who think negotiation is "here's what we want, you agree", I've a pretty dim opinion of the lot of them. Yes. The EU is going to go through a rocky patch but there aren't any really serious signs of it being likely to collapse (not that I'm particularly keen on the organisation and have no qualms with leaving it).Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 5:40 pm Do i need to reiterate on why the EU is going to collapse and why crashing out early is a good idea?

Re: Boris Johnson is the new British Prime Minister
Will the EU collapse? Perhaps not. But I think Brexit will lop a nut off.
Why? Because five countries produce 70% of the EUs revenue: Britain, France, Italy, Spain and Germany. The other 30% is the remaining 23 countries. Britain leaving is estimated to cost the EU 11 billion euros per year that'll have to come from somewhere. Thats why they want us to stay, not because we're friends, but because they need our money.
(And what a top heavy institution. I think those five countries have to question the value for money of the other members frankly).
