Re: Modern actions you disagree with
The draft is, hopefully, no longer going to be implemented unless the U.S. gets into a major World War level conflict. In such a conflict where I imagine the situation is extreme, the ages of 18, 19, and 20 are probably "good enough" for decent soldiers. That being said, I think maybe a corollary should be implemented that "drafted soldiers" get all those rights when drafted. Maybe make it some letter on government I.D. or something so cashier's know they are exempt.

I'd rather just not have the double standard. And I think threatening to raise the minimum service age will help to get everything get lowered to 18.

If women want to be equal to men then they should die for their country along with men. Funny how the weak woman excuse only gets trotted out whenever they don't want to do something.
Re: Modern actions you disagree with
Don't women already serve in US military and it's branches? I had impression that they do but they are rarely allowed to combat zones which isn't they fault but fault of those that think they are weak.
After all there are those Americans among both men and women to whom military career seems to be only option to get forward in life because of how much system is stacked against them and in America military is paid army with most of country's budget going towards it rather than to other important things that would help American people.
Then again US government and rich in there need willing people that they can send to die in what ever war they want to have in order to keep profiting from war while propaganda makes seem like it's for they country.

Looked it up because I had heard the opposite. Then found numbers all over the map. Meaning the statistics are being manipulated for agendas. (Sorry I had a friend that took statistics in college and he explained how they can say what someone wants them to say. So almost worthless.)Mecha82 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 11:59 am Don't women already serve in US military and it's branches? But found a site that broke down some of the disparity.

Edit: Oh and I think the argument on women in the military is they should have draft cards too.

My argument is drafting yes. It seems that in our society women are as strong as men when they want to be but weaker than men when they need to be. Do we want equality between the sexes or do we want a seperate class of human with the same rights but less responsibilities?Nealithi wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 1:15 pmLooked it up because I had heard the opposite. Its very much an emperors new clothes scenario - the illusion only works until someone goes "uh, hang on a minute" and then the whole thing falls apart.
I will point out that my preferred option is no draft at all. There is no plausible scenario in 2019 short of nuclear war where it would happen making it effectively a dead law.
Re: Modern actions you disagree with
Women are allowed to serve, but they have much more choice in serving in combat roles than men do. The inequality I'd like to see addressed when it comes to women and military service is having to register for the draft in order to get Federal grants and loans, jobs, etc. like men do. I notice that was brought up very briefly, followed by a rather intense "we should just get rid of the draft then," and then the issue kind of faded away.

Re: Modern actions you disagree with
Either we have the draft for all or we don't have the draft, that is the only fair and equitable approach. And again, 21 for all. I know it wasn't before, but we went the wrong way lowering the voting age and not increasing the service age.

I don't think they're repealed it from the constitution, but just stopped doing it.Mecha82 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:37 pmAre drafts still thing in US? My dad was on the draft roster for Vietnam but they called him and told them they had stopped before he was shipped off. He told me that they were very encouraging for him to sign up anyway, but he humbly declined.
