Alright. I'll bite. What's the underlying point in that response?
..What mirror universe?
Re: Japan needs babies.
Mine? Well, basically the demographic situation that Japan had in the 18th-19th centuries was a different from the demographic situation modern Japan faces.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2019 3:28 am Alright. I'll bite. What's the underlying point in that response?

"Stagnant", "blamed" - why these negative terms for not having a growing population?TGLS wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2019 12:04 am
The upshot of all this is that Japan basically stopped growing briefly between the early 18th century and the mid-19th century. Shortly after the Meiji restoration (when Japan opened up), the population had grown significantly. The brief period of stagnation can probably be blamed on Japan reaching carrying capacity at that level of agriculture, and the rise following the mid-19th century can be credited to improvements in agriculture (new crops, etc.).

1) I didn't go back and edit it for a neutral voice. If this were something more important (like say a blog post), I'd go back and edit what I wrote. Though I'll freely admit that I used blamed twice and changed my mind when I wrote it. Also, I'm more neutral on blamed (i.e. "We can blame computers for the 90s economic boom" sounds OK to me), and I pulled stagnant right from wiki.
2) This isn't modern population stagnation, where we have plenty of resources to provide for more people. This is the result of running a society to maximum population, where bad harvests mean people starve and die, not (at worst) an economic disaster that displaces lots of people.

Perfect opportunity to make Japan more diverse.

I agree, this is a perfect opportunity for Japan to stop being Japanese and have it's population and culture erased by mass migration to the country.

Thing is, ancestors of current Japanese came from China and took lands from Ainu who are Indigenous people that lived there before them. Just like Europeans did with Native Americans when they arrived to Americas. Irony that is clearly lost to all American edge lords and far right kids on internet. Besides populations and entire continents are formed by migration of people from else were. How else humans could had spread from Africa to all other continents. Learn history because it helps you to know what you are talking about instead of just running your mouth and being ignorant.

So in the past people moved into places without people in them (not the case now), or barged in and changed / dominated / altered / suppressed whoever was already there. And you appear to be implying that that's a good thing just because it's happened before? Nope, I've got no issue with Japan wanting to stay very much Japanese. A relatively small number of incomers is good, brings a bit of variety without fundamentally changing anything but nowdays some people seem to have this strange idea that any sense of individuality and identity about cultures and countries is a bad thing (some people seem to apply that to humans too).Mecha82 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 10:12 am Thing is, ancestors of current Japanese came from China and took lands from Ainu who are Indigenous people that lived there before them. Re: Japan needs babies.
I'm not American, I'm east European. I know the history of my country and my people and I know how we suffered under repeated migrations and invasion. How we were denied the right to govern ourselves up until the 19th century and how foreigners with different languages and cultures imposed their laws, rules and taxes on us for centuries on end. I know history, and I am neither blind nor stupid. Multiculturalism and the praised diversity for diversity's sake are failed experiments. And something I would not wish on anyone. The worst thing Japan can do is import another culture and population to replace its own. You either fight to survive or what happened to the Ainu and the Native Americans is what's going to happen to you. And I dunno about you, but what happened to the Ainu and to the Native Americans tends to be portrayed as a bad thing in most history books I've read. I guess you must have read some other history books, ones that say that the Trail of Tears was a great thing, and that the US concentrations camps the Nazi's imitated were praiseworthy. Hell, with an attitude like that I bet you must be a massive proponent of colonialism, hell, you probably cry yourself to sleep every night knowing colonialism ended a century ago.Mecha82 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 10:12 am Thing is, ancestors of current Japanese came from China and took lands from Ainu who are Indigenous people that lived there before them.
