They can't do that in Europe either. As far as we know, no regime can survive persistent civil resistance from more 4-5% of the population. Look up the Rosenstrasse protests.
People can be sheep and certain political parties can gain a lot in a short time...

Yes. And that extends to gun owners.

Well, I mean... your reasoning seems to be that if the Nazis go too far, the gun-owners will rise up en masse and throw them out. But if the gun-owners can be misled, there's no need to take their guns. They can still have them, as long as their ire is directed at the "proper" people. Mexicans, jews, homosexuals, trans people... there's a whole laundry list of alternative targets. Do you not have a President who said that the Mexicans who come to the U.S. are mostly rapists, drug addicts, and criminals?

I doubt anybody took that to mean what he actually meant. I mean as far as people following his constituency.

Really? Or when he said that there were fine people among those who chanted "The jews will not replace us" in Charlottesville?

I mean, I can certainly imagine people don't want to admit that he means what he says, and that people like David Duke see him as their man in the White House. But that just shows that as long as you mouth the right platitudes you can do a lot of shit without the 2nd Amendment stopping anything.

Besides, not all gun owners are willing to shoot. Collectors, anyone?

Let me educate you on that one. From a transcript:
Excuse me, they didn't put themselves down as neo-Nazis, and you had some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides. You had people in that group – excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down, of to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.
...
You know what? It’s fine, you’re changing history, you’re changing culture, and you had people – and I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally – but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists, okay?
That doesn't stop some on the left from saying he called white supremacists very fine people, but it does stop them from being honest when they do.

Are certain healthy people just unable to hold a gun?

There cannot be new gun owners because they are afraid of political faction z?

No one ever abandons a political coalition?

My last message must have been lost to the ether. The point is - civil disobedience is more effective and can be done by more people. The Second Amendment doesn't really add to the survivability of U.S. Democracy because you already have something better. As do all nations.

What we need to do is make sure this is understood, to make people understand that they can be useful - vital - to a resistance movement even if they can't carry a gun. I would be useless in a military unit - but I can do a sit-in (sitting is what I do best). Watch the Ted Talk:
