Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
Re: Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
The marvel history is why it's not that much outside. But at the same time, we're talking about a game with a rather limited audience. Not sure it would be worth his time to do it. You and I would be interested but not likely most other people. He might get more interest in the history of TOR than for STO, honestly.

Great I want to argue and agree with you. . .Eishtmo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 5:37 pm The marvel history is why it's not that much outside. Agreement: You know, I don't know much about the creation of KotOR 1 or TOR. So such a video would be enlightening.
Argument: What qualifies for a limited audience? I mean not everyone on this forum plays TOR right?
Re: Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
To be fair based on what I have seen STO doesn't seem very interesting as far as MMOs go. I would much rather see him experience FF14 than STO.

Re: Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
It's been, gosh, 5 years or more since I played STO. I remember going through the story, and there were some interesting story ideas: Having the Romulans settling new planets after Romulus was destroyed was a neat idea, and the Federation's role in assisting them made sense. There was an overall theme of the Borg sending routine incursions into the Alpha and Beta Quadrants even though the story around it wasn't very developed.
But there were other stories that were just badly written fanfic that didn't feel like Star Trek at all. In one, your Starfleet character was forced to murder people in order to advance the story. There was another story mission where I think a bunch of research scientists essentially turned into zombies? The stuff that felt MOST like Star Trek was recruiting your crew and sending officers off on Starfleet missions that sounded like classic Star Trek stuff, none of which you got to see or do.

One mission? Wow, you haven't played it in a long time have you. STO is very much the "shoot to kill men" school of Star Trek. Especially true when you figure out how to sick your crew on an enemy. (it's the y key, btw).
Don't remember the zombie story at all though. Maybe it was a Foundry (user made) mission? Don't know
Re: Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
I think the mission in question was yanked. In most missions your combat is justified. This one was a Romulan medical facility and you were railroaded to wipe it out by an undine posing as an admiral. Everyone protested that there should have been places to defy these orders.Eishtmo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 9:19 amOne mission? Wow, you haven't played it in a long time have you. The zombie mission sounds like the Section 31 recruitment mission where the Star Fleet crew are brain washed through telepathy to attack you and at the end you have to choose to shoot the captain of that ship or the known section 31 operative that has been guiding you. Also yanked I believe. Sad because that mission actually had a choice at the end.
Re: Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
Much as I enjoy Star Trek Online, it's very much not story-oriented the way TOR is, where there is a character arc for your player. STO is more about the larger Star Trek universe and playing with all the toys and trying to build new stories based on old ones... but said stories rarely have the complexity that TOR seems to have. There are a few moments of brilliance, like using the Dividians in a ghost story kind of thing, buuuut then you have weird random connections between otherwise unrelated Star Trek stories and it can come across as a bit fanficy.
Re: Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
A lot of the fun in STO is playing with what they give you and in your 'brain space' of imagination as you get to play your Star Trek character. It would not make a good video series.

I would like a story about how the society of the federation, Romulans, and the Klingon Empire react to the giants monsters the enterprise fight weekly.
Re: Interested in Star Trek Online Playthroughs?
IMO that's the part that would work best, because Chuck is a great storyteller and would probably make a great character and crew. It's just that the surrounding cruft would be a constant uphill battle.
