Should we send him a gift basket?
Seriously, this series was rough. Thank you, Chuck, for all you do.

This would have been a good show to stop at the three episode watch, let alone 8, or all 12. It really puts the F in SFF.

Re: Kannazuki No Miko 11
I ask this with all sincerity - how do people defend this show? It has a pretty passionate fanbase, so I can only assume it has defenders. I can think of two defenses, but neither of them really work for me.
The first defense of this show that I can think of is that it's fetish porn and that critiquing it as a serious work of mainstream entertainment misses the point - kind of like saying "hey, that housewife wouldn't be greeting that plumber in a negligee!" If you don't share the fetish, there's no point in watching it (in which case, having SFDebris review it was a cruel joke). But if it's porn, it takes an awful long time to build up (pun not intended) and it takes a lot pointless detours away from what I'm assuming is the money shot.
The second defense I've seen is that Chikane's rape of Himiko is necessary to get Himiko to hate her or something to make it more possible to save the world somehow. Even if I accepted this argument as a defense of Chikane, which I don't, it's not a defense of the show, because the creators of the show still made a show where rape saves the day. Think about that for a second - why would you make a "helpful" rape the linchpin of your show?
If you take out the rapey elements, I still get the sense that all you'd be left with is a mediocre anime. Is there anything this show does that other shows don't do better?
Is this show intended for heterosexual men or bi/lesbian women?

Re: Kannazuki No Miko 11
Like most mainstream lesbian porn, it's probably written more with men in mind. I think you're right on the mark though when you say people basically like this show because it's like porn for them. There's a lot of anime like that, and it seems to be real popular, so more and more clones keep getting made to cash in on that.

This link is to a Wild West (Will Smith) review. I am unable to find a Nostalgia Critic review of KnM. Is there such a thing?Winter wrote: You have no idea how bad and disturbing the last episode is. Here's a spoiler free version as presented by the Nostalgia Critic.

Also, if you thnk this is bad, wait for Chuck's review of Hametsu no Mars (Mars of Destruction). Now that is one bad anime. As for KnM, I understand that Chuck hates it and I don't care much for it myself. However, the anime community (on average) thinks differently. At Anime News Network, a site I respect, the reviews are generally above average, by both members and staff. The average score given (and they are not all into porn) is about a C+.

I'm pretty sure the point was the bit where NC goes into the effects of the movie on the viewer, and inviting the person on this forum following the link to connect that to the effect of watching Kannazuki no Miko.jstrahan wrote:This link is to a Wild West (Will Smith) review. So, taking a look at that review and the link to the forum discussion, it seems the way they're able to get around the problem with the rapeyness is... to either not think about it at all and enjoy the fanservice mindlessly or dismiss it as a minor hiccup in the love story. Which says incredibly disturbing things about the both the reviewer and fanbase itself. And how the heck did they give the story a B when they even admitted the robots were completely out of place and the plot suffered from problems with basic logic?!Also, if you thnk this is bad, wait for Chuck's review of Hametsu no Mars (Mars of Destruction).
