There are 19000ish posts on the Sci-Fi and Fantasy board, and another 19000ish on the Video Reviews board. There's 15000ish on the news board. Even if we're generous and say a quarter drift into politics, there's still about a 4000 post lead on science fiction over politics.
Look at the Sci Fi and review sections some more...

Just a bit on should this thread be here. Yes, yes it should.
First it is in off topic and general. So go ahead. Second, and using Chuck again, As he noted in his review of Doctor Who's cancellation, just because someone likes one thing. Does not automatically mean they do not like another.

So talk sports, and sports related things. Those that are into it shall enjoy one another's input.

That is my two cents worth.

In fairness I think we talk politics a lot because Chuck is a fair man who encourages every point of view even if he disagrees with them. A rare thing nowadays.

Also, General Discussion should mean everything.

I did not consider this prior, but yeah that's totally correct. The News section gets the most political talk because that's just a big topic for news in general. This becomes the parent subforum of the Off-topic forum section for speculative threads sans news.
..What mirror universe?
