Soon-Death of Youtube and power-vacuum of rivals?
Re: Soon-Death of Youtube and power-vacuum of rivals?
I'm honestly inclined to suggest that Youtube may very well be a "loss leader" for Google. It may very well make Google no money, and possibly be very costly, but it generates enough data on its users to more than make up for the expense.

I still don't know what you are talking about. If this is all one big troll its not a very good one as inciting mild confusion in your target hardly puts you in the shitposting hall of fame.King Green wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 7:58 pmHow are you this blind when in fact the truth in the part of 2/3 knowledge gained is so suppressed in your head its dead, yet I can still speak the TRUTH about it?!He only gets 2/3 of his knowledge from you a-holes by just talking what you know well to professionally of the content).
Horrible grammar. Just horrible. I have no idea what you just wrote.

Yup. All it's done is left me confused. Hardly trolling.

Slightly different, but I think lots of online stuff does not make any actual profit for years but generates enough buzz and revenue that people keep it alive. For example I don't think Amazon was actually making a profit for years (looking it up around 2003 for its first annual profit). I think Youtube is probably in that vein, they may not have figured out how to make money from it, but it is clear that there are huge potentials if they can figure out the right system, so it is worth keeping the thing going and at the top to do that.

Am I the only one weirded out by the fact that Chuck is actually mostly not on Youtube but actually uses Vimeo for most of his video hosting. Like is Vimeo secretly actually Youtube? Like I assume lots of the back end of my web experience are really the same five companies supplying hosting services in some complicated web, but I am not clear on the details.
I think Youtube is the dominant format thanks to Metacalfe's law the power of a network is proportional to the square of the number of nodes. If you go to Youtube you are one stop shopping for a huge range of videos and one video can lead you to another either directly or through the power of the almighty algorithm (hallowed be its name), hence once established as a leader Youtube powers more and more ahead of its competition. There is no deep conspiracy just basic logistical constraints creating a natural (almost) monopoly. Also as long as services like Vimeo and Dailymotion exist there is still some competition.
Google's search engine does not jack up Youtube much, the fact that the search engine made Google more money than God so they could afford to buy the top free streaming service (Youtube) is much more controlling here.
Youtube is cracking down on some political content, it also does not allow porn, hence things like Pornhub. Youtube banning stuff does little to stop it getting distributed. If there is really some kind of political content there is even a niche desire to air I am sure some free video sharing service will rise up to allow people to share those videos.

Sure, maybe if no one does anything to try to prevent it.

...Welp, should have brought alcohol when there is a chance when someone in the forums act so much as idiot(not including myself, that requires awareness) that they know what is being said but act like Harry and Neelix had a kid and the kid is a threat to existence due to the former two's bad character development. Even Janeway would call it disturbing, and she once scared a god(possibly sentient cosmic nebula) into going into another dimension!

There's a reason they actively court media companies at the expense of independent creators, forcing them to subsidize with sponsorships, patreon, or get subsumed entirely.

Did I miss a memo? Why is Youtube on the verge of passing away?
Re: Soon-Death of Youtube and power-vacuum of rivals?
As a place to watch videos it's not going anywhere soon. As what it used to be I guess it is basically dying, as they continue to move in the way they have for years favoring major broadcasting/corporate/advertising partners and fucking over independent creators. There continues to be people making content, but if you think YouTube is a career without actually working for a company you might think YouTube is dead.LittleRaven wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 12:10 am Did I miss a memo? Yeah, there's a reason why most folks go through Patreon these days, YT on its own will NOT payout.Robovski wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 12:27 amAs a place to watch videos it's not going anywhere soon.
