Holier-than-thou virtue-signaling on the left?
Anybody else find it really fucking annoying? I do.

I have seen similar from right as well. Which is why I hate it when people keep pointing fingers and telling that it's all other sides fault without realizing that they side is equally bad. As some one in center I can't be noticing that mentality.

Well, leftists easily insist the world is worse than it's ever been, and I laugh at that. I read about the 1940s, and that seems like the darkest period in our history, even past "it was a war situation." Things are bad, sure, but they could be a billion times worse. And crime is even going down.

Yeah, it reminds me of the worst kind of religious people. That's why I think of them as a cult.

I mean, world is actually better than the 1950s, and we were riding high off the money we raked in from WWII then. Is it the 1990s? Nope. But then, what could be? The Internet would have killed it anyway.

Whoever is saying that is a blind idiot. Yes, modern society is still VERY flawed, but we have come a LONG way from the times of lynching a black man for wanting to read or of parents electrocuting their sons for the most terrible crime of crushing on other boys. That still happens, sadly, but not nearly as often and now you'll might actually see jail time for it.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2019 2:30 pm Well, leftists easily insist the world is worse than it's ever been, and I laugh at that. We're not in a GREAT place, but we are in a BETTER place. Now, let's try to stay there and not get pushed backward by the dispositionally-powerful few who can not just accept that they have been rightly left behind.

Or when the common viewpoint was a woman is obligated to "contribute" to the war effort with her body. In the wake of sexual liberation, that's a dying view, thank God. I also severely object to applying standards of today to the past.

Well said. Even if we won't go forward it's important not to go backwards either. We can be always better and we should be better. Sadly there are those that are against everything that is good just to stick to other side.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2019 4:26 pmWhoever is saying that is a blind idiot. Another form of virtue-signaling. "We should always believe rape accusations, no matter how farfetched and even when you take critical issue with some of the arguments presented!"

It's not that rape accusations should always be believed but that they should at least be listened. Part of the issue with sexual harassment was that women wouldn't be listened to for multiple reasons, and that's something that would discourage them from coming out with the truth of what happened, especially if it only made things worse for them. It's better to consider what they accuse rather than believe, and during the process figure out what actually occurred.
