Star Trek: Discovery in trouble?

Star Trek Beyond might not have been a big financial success, but I think it will age decently in the minds of Trek fans at least. That's in contrast to Into Darkness, which seems to have already aged poorly despite a decent initial reception (if I remember rightly Chuck's minireview put it about on par with Trek '09, I think that will change when the full review comes out. Star Trek Discovery, right now I'm worried that it will be closer to Enterprise than TNG in terms of reception.

The Comic Con trailer is out for Discovery (a link- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsYu9jsmlHc), and I'm not getting a good feeling. Besides aesthetic problems and not being in a good place chronologically, the vibes from the trailer give me the impression that the tone is going to be exactly what I don't want from a Star Trek series.

I know Trek fans overuse the word "cerebral", but I don't see any indication that Discovery will be cerebral or have any exploration. JJ-Trek didn't either, but at least those had the excuse of being blockbuster films.

It doesn't look like there will be any improvements in world-building or race-building, with the trailer putting the same tired cliches about Vulcans and Klingons on full display.

What really stuck out to me in a negative way is that it doesn't look like we're getting a true ensemble cast. I think having the first officer as the lead is a fine idea, but we see her doing a bunch of action movie crap. Why is it so hard for characters to act like officers and work together under the purview of their position? One of my biggest complaints about JJ-Trek is that you go through two movies before Kirk begins to act anything at all like a captain rather than a super-hero sans superpowers, and this looks the same.

To put things more succinctly, the show doesn't look like Star Trek. No real judgment yet, since its only a trailer, but my hopes are not high.

To some degree, but Picard and Sisko spent a lot of time delegating and acting like non-superheroes too. Kirk was more of a cowboy, but outside maybe taking on two henchmen at once he was more grounded as well. I certainly don't mind some action, but the best shows/films break free from generic tropes that we see over and over again. The best shows have a strong vision and strong central themes. So far I'm not seeing that here.

Who is designing this ship?

I think that pic is old. The ship as shown in the recent trailer doesn't look anything like that:

Looks kinda like Enterprise NX-01, which makes sense for something that predates the original series.

The Discovery is only in the trailer for a split second after they say "an entirely new way of flying." The other ship in there is the USS Europa.

I'm glad we got another Female Captain, hopefully she'll be written better then Janeway was.

I still don't like it being another Prequel, or being so Action/War centric.
