Not really. Americans weren't being shot at much in Northern Syria...most of casualties came from accidents, and those happen everywhere always.

Our troops were there to serve as a tripwire, not in an active combat capacity.

And will save the American taxpayer hundreds of millions of dollars!

Again, not really. We're going to be paying for those troops one way or the other. We might save a little money by moving them somewhere more centralized, but we're not even talking pocket change...more like belly button lint.

Being President of the United States is complicated. No matter what you do or don't do, people are going to die as a result. There are arguments to be made for the troop withdrawal, but it's not a coincidence that virtually no military analysts agree with this move.

Looking through old forums from 2006 is highly amusing. They think Americans were unjustified to feel upset about 9/11, lol. Even so, I will contend Bush "giving the people what they want," which is a decisive military invasion as feel-good politics, was the bad idea. From what I've heard, Obama's softening of US presence in the middle east led to the growth of ISIS through exploitation of Iraq and Syria (and Lebanon or Libya or something).

People don't necessarily blame Obama (though Trump obviously made a big deal of it), but concur that that explains the uprising of ISIS/ISIL
