We were using the Miasma theory of disease until the late 1800's. Under that theory, would make more sense to fart in the faces of the natives to infect them than give them "infected" blankets. Besides, the main infection vector of small pox is through the air not puss from sores.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 6:21 pmAt least the Tawantinsuyu didn't intentionally spread bioweapons to people they met.clearspira wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 2:43 pmI wouldn't say worse but I defy anyone who claims they were better.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 2:16 pm Obviously the Spanish, who indiscriminately enslaved everybody they met and intentionally worked large numbers of people to death to weaken potential resistance, were even worse than the Tawantinsuyu and the Triple Alliance put together.

They were smart enough to know "touch smallpox, get smallpox" & "smell fart, not die".Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 9:58 pmWe were using the Miasma theory of disease until the late 1800's. They were not idiots.
Re: DIS - New Eden
You're mixing a lot of stories here. The Spanish spread disease just by being there, even if their intentions had been 100% noble, the diseases they carried would have still wiped out most of the native population.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 6:21 pmAt least the Tawantinsuyu didn't intentionally spread bioweapons to people they met.clearspira wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 2:43 pmI wouldn't say worse but I defy anyone who claims they were better.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 2:16 pm Obviously the Spanish, who indiscriminately enslaved everybody they met and intentionally worked large numbers of people to death to weaken potential resistance, were even worse than the Tawantinsuyu and the Triple Alliance put together.
"The smallpox blankets" story has only one piece of evidence of it ever being used intentionally, and that was by British colonists in North America over 200 years later.

I'm pretty sure that Cortez used bioweaponry, too, but either way, the slavery, proto-concentration-camps, and forced migration certainly didn't help societies that already were at extreme risk of pandemic.cloudkitt wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 3:39 pmYou're mixing a lot of stories here. Point is: Tawantinsuyu nasty autocratic imperialist regime, Aztec triple alliance nasty "pay us or we kill you" tributary empire, Spanish objectively worse than either with bugfuck crazy racial caste system, mass slavery, and intentionally working large numbers of people to death. Himmler would've loved to watch and take notes.
