I don't think it was intentional. I don't think it was for Luke, tbh, though some insist it's pushing men aside for Feminist archetypes. And hell, Season 2 got better, so to hell with Season 1 is my thinking. It's the same as TNG Season 1 for me. Your choices are literally either shit or vomit. Which do you think is good?

Hmm, Stargate is one of my favorite shows, should I say something?

Ask me what I think so far. I have lots of opinions. But I need prompting. I've finished Season 1.

Okay...
What are the best and worst things about the show? How do you (or anyone) feel about the mixture of ancient and medieval cultures, modern military, and government conspiracies?

Well, I think Season 1 only had two missteps. "Emancipation," which hey, I'd seen Chuck's review, and couldn't even finish it, so I read the transcript instead as a matter of completionism, and of course, "The Broca Divide." Daniel Jackson really shocked me to hell there, especially with the stuff happening with Sha're. To me, I kinda pretend that didn't happen or happened differently as part of my headcanon. I tend to think opposite Chuck. He thinks it's same old, same old, by the numbers with just a modern present-day military structure. But that's what makes it fresh and new. "Hathor," imo, had potential, if they had just started off her mind control stronger. Instead she comes in all, "I'm superior to you all and worship me puny humans" attitude and that just makes it all go to hell. If that moment had a stronger basis to show off her cunning, the episode, structurally, would have worked better past personal taste. And other than that, I've loved every episode. "Brief Candle," and "The First Commandment." Favorite characters are General Hammond, Teal'c, and Jack O'Neill, but as it progressed over Season 1, Samantha Carter and Daniel Jackson grew on me.

Seasons 3 - 7 are arguably the best seasons. This show also shows that fully serialized storytelling is not always a requirement for a good show.

Yup. Anything else you wanna ask me? I just finished "In the Line of Duty."

Re: So I've been thinking about checking out the Stargate franchise
This is long since passed, but I like to think that the movie was an alternate universe to the series. Jack makes mention of an O’Neil with one L (his has two) who is ‘no fun at all’, which pretty much describes the O’Neill in the movie. That and the other minor changes between the series and the movie make me feel that the series and movie are incompatible, but they don’t have to be. Stargate itself handily has its own canon multiverse of sorts, so....I’m perfectly happy saying that the movie happened *in general* in SG-1, but the precise elements may have differed.

Well, obviously similar events happened in this universe. It could be a parallel reality, like with "There But For the Grace of God."
I also just finished "Message in a Bottle."
