I've noticed but never heard that much about it, the recurring theme of deities being ultimately false and shifty.

ST V being the first example that comes to mind, but I remember TOS episodes also where Kirk is just having none of that shit today and that the person should have felt foolish for trying.

I guess it's fitting that he died in a literally heavenous carnation, as if the post Roddenbery era just decided to go with "what's the difference" in the end. If Star Trek's just gonna have a wild ass space occurence for anything despite scientific rationale, who's to say that Kirk's contempt for the concept of almighty is a bit narrow.

There was a bit where Kirk says something like "we prefer the one over the many" in that episode with Apollo, but that might have been thrown in to satisfy the studio.

Q has been shown to go back to before the Big Bang... Trelane has not been shown to do this and is essentially a child, while Q can be childlike, but is most assuredly not (even ignoring "The Q and the Grey").
