I'm fine with calling Obama center-left. But the Democratic Party has moved left, leaving Obama looking conservative now by comparison.

That's just a study that asks questions about how voting Democrats feel about social circumstances. It doesn't really say anything about where the DNC is at in terms of policy agenda. It doesn't do much to say where Obama is at relative to other politicians.

I wonder if there is a study for the right. Are they extreme right yet?

I hate how polarized everything seems to become.
I got nothing to say here.

According to the study, the Republicans have moved a bit more to the right, but not nearly as much as the Democrats have moved to the left.

If I had to guess, it's probably because the US is so far right to begin with, that the international influence of the internet is beginning to push the US's notional left party to the same relative position of left-wing parties around the world.

You think it's international?

I've been thinking of it lately and I think the seeds were already here kinda.

Well, Canadian, Scandinavian, and Southeast Asian (S. Korea, Japan), if you want to be specific.

Well, the old socialists have been crawling out of the woodwork recently. Less a seed and more of a mold.

Hmm. Mainly my considerations regarding the left there were more about identity politics. Before 2016 there used to not be that strong of a single comprehensive framework for such social interest groups, but the agendas it's comprised of have just always been around.

As far as socialism specifically, yeah there's quite a bit of overlap, though I can separate them out I think. I mean, the socialists I'm familiar with are more just people that were tired of the Democrats establishment.
