Hey someone mentioned Sunset a few days ago, did they know about the Valentine day special somehow? Or was it a coincidence?

Re: MLP Lincoln's Day (?) Show
it's just that's what I believe. like I've been saying, I've grown up and had my values shaped by shows doing stuff like this "A Very Special Blossom" from the original Powerpuff Girls where Blossom was actually given community service for theft.Deledrius wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 3:41 amI don't get it. That's very specific, and one doesn't follow the other. I assume there's some personal rationale there.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 3:35 am in this case, taking responsibility means going to prison.
there is 101 Dalmatians: The Series with episodes such as "Cadet of the Month" where the main characters are forced to crush cans by sitting on them as an ironic punishment for almost getting one of their authority figures recycled.
and there was my main moral shaper, Dragon Ball Z. when Vegeta is ready to sacrifice himself to stop Majin Buu, he is told by Piccolo in no uncertain terms that he will still go to Hell because one noble act does not make up for his life of villainy. And Vegeta accepts this completely. and him getting a third chance after this and being resurrected again was acknowledged in-story as a lucky fluke which some in the DB fandom still debate. I can directly compare Vegeta here to Tempest Shadow and her "one noble act equals redeemed" thing from the MLP movie.
and I am watching a new show that is aimed at kids but is still unique in it not having this problem: Elena of Avalor. the main villain of the first season was killed off and a secondary villain, an evil member of the normally good magical creatures in the series, is imprisoned and wile later pardoned, was still introduced in that same episode being constantly chased by guards of his people's king for escaping prison.
the only reason I don't have that much of a problem with it in The Lion Guard (at least from a Watsonian perspective) is because the characters are only Partially Civilized Animals who's laws and politics don't really resemble our real world ones. This is not the case in MLP. we've seen police and jails and they discuss things like peace treaties and delegations.

Because the writers post Season 5 somehow made it work. When I noticed the hints, I was as disappointed about it as you but Season 5 on wards I came to accept Starlight post redemption.

I was mainly responding to the part where you asked me why. Does it really make that much of a difference?Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 5:26 pmmaybe you could have responded to my full post?BBally81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 4:19 pmBecause the writers post Season 5 somehow made it work. I guess I just don't get the "I like the character, so I don't care they get away with things" mentality. Rainbow Dash is my favorite despite not really being a brony any more. but even though I haven't seen that episode, I still wanted her to be punished for what she did in "Tanks for the Memories".BBally81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 5:50 pmI was mainly responding to the part where you asked me why. I normally don't let that mentally slide in work of fiction but writers did such a good job with Starlight in later seasons I made it an exception.

I just can't make an exception, at least not in this show because again, 101 Dalmatians: The Series and Powperpuff Girls and other such cartoons have set my expectations of narrative action and consequences.BBally81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 6:12 pmDragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 6:06 pmI guess I just don't get the "I like the character, so I don't care they get away with things" mentality. and I know I said I can let it slide in The Lion Guard for the most part but this kind of thing still bugs me there too. like there was only one and only one time one of the main characters was punished for messing up: Bunga in "Paintings and Predictions" but Kion, the primary main character, screws up constantly for the first year an a half of the show's run but nothing comes of it. I am thinking that MLP is a influence on this and maybe other shows like Steven Universe and that show letting the Space Hitlers off the hook.

Re: MLP Lincoln's Day (?) Show
but back to other shows I compare to this: "A Very Special Blossom" from Powerpuff Girls, "Snow Bounders" and "Mall Pups" from 101 Dalmatians: The Series and "Paintings and Predictions" from The Lion Guard weren't "about" actions having consequences either but the main characters still got punished for the events of those episodes. so, why couldn't it happen a lot more often in MLP again? but giving an example actually from MLP, "Appleossa's Most Wanted" wasn't about consequences but still ended with the Cutie Mark Crusaders being punished.Trinary wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 1:16 am Sometimes it isn't necessary to go into the punishment aspect because that's not the point of the episode and it would distract to divert onto that, like "Tanks for the Memories." It's not about learning that actions have consequences or whatnot, it's about the grieving process so focusing on Law and Order: Equestria would not help in that.
I didn't watch that episode but from what I read, didn't Applejack say that Apple Bloom would still be grounded by Granny Smith when they get back home? I could settle for that kind of think in any of the other instances of characters getting away with stuff but that doesn't happen.Trinary wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2020 1:16 am I think one of the absolute dumbest endings to an episode was "Somepony to Watch Over Me" where Applejack comes to the conclusion that Apple Bloom's lying, stealing and sneaking off with an apple cart to take it through dangerous, monster-infested swamps was okay and showed how adult she was ... since she kept the cart safe.

This was just a great review, the stories about Chuck and and his father as teachers really helped show how the lessons from the show could work in real life
