There is even something called thd Xetenial. A cross of Gen X and Millenials. Basically saying that the Gen X and the older Millenials (like myself born in 1984) are more or less the same but a bridge to the newer tech that was coming in. I think it's like 1978 to 1986.

Basically that mini generation remembers the old school computers with green screen backgrounds. Black and white TVs. Corded or even dial phones. Days before the internet. Cable truly being basic and a luxury. Computers were not in every household. Computers still required a very good understanding of them.

This Oregon Trail generation seems like it only makes sense to be distinct from what came later.

I think it was made to make a distinction between the older Millenials and the younger ones like born in the mid-90's. There really is. Even when I was in high school, the internet was a novelty and there was no such thing as social media. Where as the younger Millenials grew up on social media while they were in school. Internet became accepted as a source for their research papers where as someone like me still had to know the the dewey decimal system to navigate the library for books as sources.

I would very much attest to that. Like you I am a very early Millennial.'I grew up with brick phones, computers with green writing and floppy disks, cathode ray tube TVs, dial up internet, teletext, VHS tapes, the Sega/Nintendo wars and the two minute porn freeview. To compare my youth to a later Millennial is incomparable. I barely even knew what anime was when I was a kid, it was some strangely dubbed ''cartoon'' they showed at two in the morning on cable that normally involved big robots.

Yes lol. Two generations right next to each other tend to have consistency.

It is true though that there is some ambiguity considering a small amount of Gen Xers were having kids by the time the baby boomers started finishing up.

It'll be interesting to see if they embrace every new technological gimmick, so there won't be much difference, or just more or less stick to what they've got.

And needs to be said, obvious as it is, that not everyone born at the same time will have the same attitude towards these things. I certainly don't compared to most of my generation on various matters (I find the idea of carrying a phone around all the time if not required for a specific reason rather ludicrous for example, although everyone else I know of my age - 40s - has one).

I mean, I'm from '96 and I wish they made phones like this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YF5JQFB/) but with decent specs.

I don't want biometric locks, I don't want edgeless screens, I don't want camera notches, I want a smaller screen (5.5-6 inches), I want a damn home button, a flipping back button, and I want 2GB of RAM and at least Android Oreo! With how little these cheapo 'smart' phones can comfortably do, I may as well get one of those Nokia repros.

In other words, yeah, some folks are still going to get left behind, tech-wise.

Yep, these generation generalizations are going to be very, very broad. I think we humans like to categorize things to simplify how we handle the world, and that's going to include each other.

That is the core of the problem with these Generations. When does it start and when do they end.

It's a fairly recent thing, most likely created by the Boomer Generation and then backtracked for WW2 and WW1 generations. Go past WW1 and the generations matter little. You could argue the Victorian Generation but that doesn't really fit.

Seems to matter now so for some they know where they belong in society. I guess it's a nice way of directing the blame on which generation is at fault for something...
