Beast Wars: Fallen Comrades

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

No need, I requested them awhile ago.
I thought it seemed like we were getting a fairly specific Dinobat/Rattrap focus, and I had wondered if someone had set it up to get reviews to lead to Code of Hero. I'd considered doing it myself as well!

Cause dangit, Code of Hero is worth it. But it really does need a dozen episodes of setup beforehand to really be appreciated.

Well, thanks to you both!

I doubt that had anything to do with his death considering right after his introduction is the season finale so his death was more likely planned beforehand. Not to mention his toy came out at the same time as dragon megs, which was before Tigerhawk's episode aired, not often toy isle get to be a walking spoiler.

I had nothing to do with the current run of episodes we have had (didn't even request them and get turned down cause they were already in the que) but yeah the setup required quite a few episodes. Lets see if I can remember what I requested (the request was in the donation note as oppose to an email so I have nothing to check). I believe they were Before the Storm, Other Voices both parts, Aftermath, Coming of the Fuzors both parts, Bad Spark, Maximal No More, Code of Hero, and for a bonus (and the reason Bad Spark is there) Transmutate.

Hasbro demanded the show only focus on *new* toys, and had a problem whenever resources were thrown at anything else such as a cameo from the original Optimus Prime or Ravage.

The people on the show insisted at least *some* characters remain the same from the start of the series for some consistency and coherence, so Rhinox and Waspinator got to survive.... and they really had to fight for Waspinator apparently. (It was either him or Scorponok, they chose Waspy.)

Similarly in season 3 they introduced Tigerhawk, and that wasn't planned as a toy, so they had to very quickly be rid of him too... and then Hasbro changed their minds and turned around and made it a toy.
goes to show that while you can make a high quality show out of a toy commercial, it's gonna be an uphill battle the whole way

The folks that have worked on the show have said that's exactly how it went down though. (At Botcon, and in some old online interviews. Sorry, its been years and years, I can't recall where exactly to pull them up.) They made Tigerhawk for the sake of wrapping up actual story stuff, there was no toy of him, they had to be rid of him super fast as a result. And then after the episodes were done Hasbro went and made a toy anyway because there was a positive response to the character.

They similarly got in trouble for their Megatron, Optimus Prime and Ravage cameos.. its the main reason they didn't do a whole bunch of shout outs while they were on the Arc, they weren't being paid to make cg models for the fans.

They weren't even supposed to have Tigertron or Airrazor on the show in season 2, that was the writers doing... they could have easily ben wiped out in int he first two minutes along with Terrorsaur and Scorponok... and why they were similarly taken out basically without warning.

Yes, the show was near its end at that point, but he could have easily survived for another 15 minutes through to the finale and gone home or onto Beast Machines. (Maybe he was luckier that way, like Dinobot.)

This level of executive meddling can reeeeally be seen if you ever watch War Planets. Season 1 was them doing a good story with the premise. Season 2 was the toy company insisting the actual planets moved and did battle, no matter how stupid and nonsensical that was.

Yes, but I get monthly requests thanks to Patreon. So now they are moved up to queue.

Fun fact is Waspinator was also supposed to die in Season 2's opening, but fan response saved him (You can still see him get knocked off his platform, but he lands in the CR chamber).

As for War Planets... Honestly, I can't begrudge them. The planets flying with giant engines is like the most memorable thing about that entire show o_O

That and the fact that the two main Rock planet characters clearly were made from ReBoot assets. Graveheart is Bob made of rocks on steroids, and Jade CLEARLY has the same facial model as Mouse, just retextured.

Is War Planets the one where there's a Rock planet, an Ice Planet and a Fire Planet (and I'm guessing an Air planet to complete the set, but I can only remember the first three) and they're being chased by not-Unicron? And iirc didn't they have weaponised moons or something (sorta like Death Stars but built from actual moons and not as heavily armed)?

As for Tigerhawk and Dinobot being lucky in that they missed out on Beast Machines, I concur. The one you have to feel really sorry for is poor ol' Waspy - he was living the high life as a god until BM decided that was too good for him, had the protohumans evict him and have him return home only to be turned into Megatron's goon again. Poor guy :(

That was Bone. Bone was the fourth planet. The race wasn't undead or anything though. It was a humanoid lizard race. Not-Unicron was "The Beast planet." Which never made sense as a name to me, since it was made of something called Void Energy, and not just really angry animals.

Anyway I can't hate on Shadow Raiders/War Planets because it had moments like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epHMrRPX6rI

Heavy stuff for a kids program, at least it was for me when I watched it.

As for Waspinator, his existence is suffering, to quote the TF wiki.
