Actual someone on my FB more so critical of the pharmaceutical industry speculated that we'll see a rise in mandated vaccines.

He went from ignoring it to declaring an emergency. I would say "terribly". There are steps he needed to take weeks ago and yet clearly did not. I doubt his base will care but the normies might.
We're talking voters who are annoyed about having to shop for toilet paper like it's black friday for all of March. So I'm pretty sure the neoliberals have some words at least.

By any historical precedent, Teflon Don's abnormal luck will not only shield him from the virus, but kill Biden and Sanders.

That's CCP for you. Always blaming others from they own misstakes. Then again it's well known that they had been covering this up on purpose and are to blame from this becoming pandemic in first place so there is that.

Of course they have. That is the problem with any regime where the leader or party is Above Us All - be it a God Emperor or a communist leader: The state cannot fail because that means the God Emperor failed. Therefore when the State fails, it CANNOT fail. Someone else has to be to blame and they will go to any lengths to convince you of the ''truth''. And this, my friends, is why no matter how often or how badly the US may f-k up, you do NOT WANT China as the world's hegemon.

And remember, China's media is heavily censored. I'm sure as far as many Chinese are concerned not only did the US unleash this virus but are probably euthanising citizens in the street. And it was definitely not due to their, um, ''questionable eating habits'', poverty or lack of OSHA standards. No, siree.

I think Mr Johnson's plan is a very good one. Whereas all of these other countries are completely losing their shit fruitlessly trying to stop it, our plan is ''you can't stop it any more than you can stop the Earth orbiting the sun. Lets push it into summer when we can best deal with it whilst building to everyone's immunity''. After all, by the stats, it mostly kills the old and the ill. If you keep THEM isolated whilst the rest of us are sneezing then its all good.

Just imagine how up the creek we would be if Johnson hadn't won the election. Corbyn would probably have called us all racist for trying to stop a Chinese disease from immigrating and opened up all our borders to it.

All of a sudden though it sounds like the plan is to go full on East Germany in the UK. Odd, because I've thought that so far it's managed to strike just about right a very difficult balance.

The herd immunity idea I think is thinking long term - the virus is here to stay, so the only way to deal with it is to have enough people immune that another flare-up won't be able to get established. Whether it'll work or not... I'm no expert.

I'm not sure if everybody's heard this but a big concern is general hospital infrastructure that can't really sustain the virility of the virus. Our means of handling it is somewhat rudimentary, and really it is bound to tie up operations in the hospital also because of how fast it is expected to spread. Not to mention that civil unions are not going to preemptively isolate every at risk senior citizen.

Yeah, the last thing you want to do with a disease outbreak is take steps to slow it down or reduce transmission in any way. It's almost as fruitless and ridiculous as wiping your ass with Scotts two-ply instead of yesterday's Daily Male or an old dishcloth.
