Re: Coronavirus - the new pandemic
Personally I want Trump to win just so he continues to fight China - I have no faith that Biden or Sanders will do anything of substance. Either the conspiracies are true and Chinese flu came from a lab or it came out of some dirty marketplace where they kill dogs by the side of the street. Either way, the West can no longer afford to outsource its essential supplies and services to this country when for all intents and purposes a new Cold War is on the cards. China BTW on its official Twitter page has already blamed the US for unleashing this virus. A gross lie that needs to be dealt with.
Oh, and don't believe anyone who calls such talk racist. Along with crying sexism, crying racism is one of the most efficient ways to shut down conversations that need to be had and the likes of the Chinese gov know this which is why along with blaming the US they have also claimed this on Twitter. Any trick in the book to distract from the failings of The Dear State.

It's not that efficient anymore. See crying wolf.

I don't have to believe anyone. I can see it's racist with my own eyes.clearspira wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 1:17 am Oh, and don't believe anyone who calls such talk racist.

I wish it WAS an efficient way to shut down conversations. You racist conservatives never shut up because you find "crying racism" much more offensive than actually being racist or saying racist things.clearspira wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 1:17 am

Re: Coronavirus - the new pandemic
There is a difference between blaming the People's Republic of China and blaming the chinese. If you don't believe me, ask some of the more vocal people in Hong Kong.
The PRC mishandled this and mishandled it badly. Threatening detention of doctors for trying to get the information out, and the conditions of wet markets like the one in Wuhan, have probably helped spread a pandemic. A wet market in another location in China might have been where SARS originated, and the government tried to cover that up, too.
China also kept masks that were made for other countries. I'm not saying that's evil; if the U.S. had a major disease outbreak that was hitting here a lot harder than elsewhere, and kept vital medical equipment for it, I don't know that I'd condemn it. But it does point to the importance of keeping vital industries domestic.
If someone on the left wants to assume the reason for criticizing China is racism, fine. That which is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
PS. Cmdr King has said that racism that is not likely to have an effect in the real world is OK.

Right, cuz we never get diseases from pork/swine, or birds like chickens.it came out of some dirty marketplace where they kill dogs by the side of the street
That's what I mean by racism.
"The westerners have an unhygenic and primitive habit of clasping hands when they meet each other, regardless of what filth they have touched, and this doubtless is responsible for the rapid spread of disease in their countries". That's what Clearspira sounds like.

I've read that the reason europeans spread diseases where they went more than brought them home is probably because of exactly that. That europeans were more likely to have more zoonotic diseases from food or utility animals, with resistances to the strains they'd been exposed to for generations. That's not me being racist against europeans. But there are usually controls in place, and we're unlikely to have several thousand die from it nowadays.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 6:27 amRight, cuz we never get diseases from pork/swine, or birds like chickens.it came out of some dirty marketplace where they kill dogs by the side of the street

That second quote doesn't strike me as problematic, to be honest. "Primitive" seems arbitrary there, but shaking hands is unhygenic. We'd probably be better off with the vulcan salute, and I'm not just saying that because I can do it easily with both hands, but mostly I am.
Criticizing cultural practices is, IMHO, not racist. Westerners in general probably eat too much red meat. Kuru is spread by a culinary practice that seems to me quite unwise. The love of smoking in China is also not good for the health. I suspect that every culture is pretty stupid in some way.
It's insensitive to criticize another culture, perhaps, but that doesn't indicate someone is inferior or deserving of lesser treatment because of their particular breed of human.

Shall I tell you why crying racism and crying sexism no longer works as well as it did? Overuse. EVERYTHING became one of these things to somebody. Male urinals, opening your legs on a subway, liking boobs and cold air conditioning became sexist (true stories), drawing people in the wrong ink or wearing ''their'' clothes became racist (true stories).Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 3:59 amI wish it WAS an efficient way to shut down conversations. There is only so much you can be called a racist for shit that isn't racist for people to no longer give a shit. And as long as people like you fail to learn this lesson, more and more people when being called an ''ist'' will give you the middle finger.
Covid in Britain does not have a 15% death rate.
