DS:9 "What You Leave Behind"

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

For argument's sake, you aren't very omnipotent (a common God trait) if you can't communicate.

I would also say the Q represent a god-like character race quite well.

Yeah but Q only pretends to be a god to troll Picard that one time, he's well aware he is just a super-powerful alien. Verdict: Not a god.

Well shit, Cryptic Mirror, you're pretty hard to please.

Why do you say that? Why does a true god need to be unhelpful, apathetic, and impossible to commune with?

He's not hard to please, his defintions are just complete bogus.

I'll agree with those who've said that Chuck's comparison of a devastated Cardassia with post-WWI Germany was rather off; that a comparison with post-WWII Germany would have been more apt. After all, though Germany in WWI had to agree to some rather humiliating terms of surrender, they still had enough infrastructure left intact to rebuild. By the end of WWII, Germany was so razed by the British, Americans, and especially Soviet forces that they needed help from said same powers to rebuild (to say nothing of their nation being divided for over 40 years). Aside from being split (as far as we know - there's nothing in hard canon that suggests what happens to Cardassia after the war), Cardassia is pretty much in the same boat as 1945 Germany - industry wrecked, their population reduced, little to no working infrastructure, and the people essentially broken psychologically. No wonder Garak's in such a funk.

Also, I'm surprised Chuck didn't mention that the estimates for Cardassian casualties during the Dominion's purge were the initial estimates; I believe Garak even says that the casualty reports are still coming in. Which means it could easily climb over the billion mark - but again, it seems as if Berman was eager to leave DS9 as far behind him as possible, as we have no follow-up.

I'd say it's a worst of both worlds situation. After WWII, the Allies (and the Soviet regime, to some extent) were interested in repairing relations with what was left of Germany because it was going to be a buffer state in the new geopolitical situation. They made financial commitments to helping rebuild German infrastructure and maintaining solid relationships with the new German state. It gave a devastated country a hope of recovery. But there was no consideration of repairing relations with Germany after the first World War, and they were assigned massive amounts of war debts along with the blame, and a treaty that crippled their defensive potential.

So Cardassia is just as ravaged as post WWII Germany, but without being important enough for people to care about what happens to it next. Since everyone blames them for the war, they won't even feel much sympathy at how badly the entire state suffered and the massive casualties they took from both sides.

Considering his definition would disqualify basically every God humanity has ever come up with yeah.

The Federation will help them out at least and they probably earned some points for turning on the Dominion fleet.

That said, I felt like it was reasonable enough to let ONE canon couple still be around at the show's end. They killed off Worf's wife, then Sisko leaves Cassidy to be a God, and Odo leaves Kira to prove his people aren't gods. It's weird how the least developed couple is the only one that survives the series.
I suppose you have a point and they do have decent chemistry. I just feel like they would worked better with Ezri being just a transfer from another deep space station and another character be the new Dax.
Oh well, their relationship isnt' the worst thing that has happened in Deep Space nine or Star trek.

"Her" definition, thank you. And yeah, feature not bug. Gods are what you have instead of scientific explanations or processes.

So, anything that meets the criteria of a god...by definition cannot be a god.

I said who is to say a Sufficiently Advanced Alien cannot be a god?
You said "me".

I think you've demonstrated that you are a very poor candidate to set the criteria for divinity.
