Into the Spider-Verse

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

I geeked out when he mentioned Toei Spider-Man. To those that don't know this it was Toei Spider-Man and it having giant robot that saved Super Sentai making Power Rangers possible.

I had no idea that Spider Ham was that old. Or that the Hostess Spider-Man died. That's... that's actually kinda sad.

Oh wow.

Not being too familiar with the comics they all use, I never fail to be surprised by characters having a direct or otherwise basis in the comics.

Here is a slightly modified comment I wrote about this thing a year ago on The Editing Room

This was my movie of 2018.
I identified to a comical level with Peter B Parker, as I am also a gifted guy who never really got his life together, but never the less rediscovers who he is and what he is about by teaching (I am in a PhD program right now to pursue becoming a college professor, unfortunately I am stuck with researching rather than teaching and the Coronavirus stopped dead in class meetings anyway...).

I also very much see "Spiderverse" as a guide for older nerds on how to welcome new people into various hobbies and interests, by saying, "you don't know everything yet, let me show you a few things, and hey, those are some cool variations on the classic ideas, keep doing that."
Anybody can be (a fan) of Spider-Man, so to speak.

That was fast. Poor Chuck and other online reviewers for having to deal with this.

Back up, although there is no native fullscreen I'm afraid.

I really enjoyed this movie, it's probably the second best next to Spider-Man 2. My only complaint is that Peni, Noir, and Ham didn't get enough screentime, I would have loved more of them, but since a sequel is in the works, we'll probably get just that. It stands as one of the most ambitious animated movies made and a movie that takes full advantage of the comic universes, and it totally deserved that oscar...then again it's not like the competition was that great, with Disney only putting out an uninspired sequel to The Incredibles and a terrible sequel to Wreck-It Ralph. Mirai was also not as good as Hosoda's other works, I mean it was cute but it his least good original film. Haven't seen Isle of Dogs yet so I can't comment.

Peni and Noir definitely needed more screentime, but I think Ham got just the right amount. He got enough to be funny, or to deliver and emotional moment, but too much and he'd have turned into a Neelix; always trying to jam a comedic moment into a dramatic one.

The comic version of Spider-verse that really shocked me was the death of the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends version. With Iceman and Firestar included in the death toll. That seemed either spiteful, or cheap attempt at trying to piggyback a dramatic moment off of another property. My favourite alternate Spider is the Ultimates Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew, who is an alternate sex clone of Peter. With a clone of Peter's memories in her brain. I loved that at one point she ended up dating Johnny Storm too. It is a shame so little was really done with her before they hit the old reset button, and removed all the interesting parts of her mental conflict.

Online reviewers like Chuck really need to form a union and lobby for reform of fair usage and copyright bots in order to prevent this. It is the only way it will change, and with so many people gigging onto reviews to get them through the Corona crisis, the time for it is now.
