Ranking the Star Trek Films

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Ranking the Star Trek Films

Post by Winter »

With All the Star Trek films now out, how do you rank the films, going from your least favorite to your most favorite?

For me, going from worst to best my ranking is.

Nemesis
The Final Frontier
Insurrection
Into Darkness
The Motion Picture
Generations
The Search For Spock
Star Trek (2009)
The Undiscovered Country
The Voyage Home
First Contact
Beyond
The Wrath of Khan

This is one of those perennial threads. Could have sworn it's in the depths of this forum already somewhere. Anyway my opinions may have changed as of late, here goes:

WORST
X 'Nemesis'
XII 'Into Darkness'
V
I
VII 'Generations'
--rewatchability threshold--
IX 'Insurrection'
IV
III
XIII 'Beyond'
VIII 'First Contact'
XI 'Star Trek (2009)'
GalaxyQuest
II
BEST

Basically it's the vanity projects at the bottom, and the fact that I and VII didn't really 'get' how to put their shows on film yet. Everything else is at least okay.

Best-
The Wrath of Khan
The Undiscovered Country

Great-
The Voyage Home
The Search for Spock

Good-
First Contact
Beyond
The Motion Picture
Star Trek '09

Watchable but very flawed-
Nemesis
Generations

Worst-
Final Frontier
Into Darkness
Insurrection

Star Trek: II is definitely the best to me, and I'd definitely take First Contact and Beyond over TMP and '09, but otherwise the order is pretty interchangeable in each tier.
The owls are not what they seem.

Are you sure you don't have that backwards?

Not sure if you're aware that they're only judged respective to their own series. The question of ranking for the best/worst when it's a matter of your favorite... as far as an objective list I'm not inclined to list it atm w/out being cross purposes or unarticulated. If we were talking about the movies that I enjoy the most, then that'll be a linear line through obviously, mind you with Generations near the top and Wrath of Khan not ranking very high.

Just my opinion, but it looked like you had all of the series backwards for some reason (Final Frontier the best? WoK and UDC the worst?)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You know, I have not seen most of these in 15-20 years, I don't know if I can really make a listing, but I want to say something else tho.

The first Star Trek thing I watched was a Saturday afternoon presentation of V, the worst one.
And I loved it. The idea of this psychic preacher brainwashing people to help him find God was cool, I was not a discerning kid... I think I was 5-8 when I caught this... but it grabbed me. I started watching the hell out of Star Trek and especially Deep Space 9 years later.

The worst stuff in Star Trek... Is still pretty good when you haven't seen a lot, it still can hook people. I have been trying to appreciate that sort of thing more recently.
Kind of burned out on cynicism for fiction. There are too many things to dislike in the real world.
