This thing may have reached or passed its peak in many places, but the possible effects of a second wave is a huge concern for me right now. Obviously we don't know what the long term fallout from the first wave will be (be it medically, economically, etc.) whenever it's actually over, but at least in America I'm not sure how many people will be obeying quarantine/isolation measures a second time around.
Yeah, I keep thinking about the erroneously named Spanish Flu.
The first wave killed 5 million. Then we thought it was over and people wanted to celebrate the end of the war.
Then 30 million died.
Well, we're not in a war at this moment. Okay, yeah, we are, but nowhere near the mass mobilization of the two world wars. That might help. A little.
The USA is ALWAYS at war.

I stand by my statement, since my intent is the same - that no country is near the mass mobilization of the two world wars. Should we strive for world peace? Yes. But in our age of drone warfare and small-scale skirmishes, I am at least relieved horrors like that are, for the moment, a thing of the past.

Tidbits:

Likely Earlier SARS-COV-2 Arrival in the US
The first US COVID-19 death may have occurred in California on 6 February — more than three weeks before the first reported death occurred in Washington state.

Three people who died in Santa Clara County between 6 February and 6 March have now been confirmed as COVID-19 deaths after autopsies, according to a statement released by the county’s department of public health on 21 April.

1 Day Sooner
There is an effort to accelerate development of a vaccine by the use of a "human challenge trial." That's a pretty innocuous term but what it means is that rather than inoculate some people and give others a placebo and wait to see who gets infected in the ordinary course of their lives, this would inoculate some people and give others a placebo and then deliberately expose them to the virus. This would be after safety and immune response was tested in animals and then in humans, and would use young, healthy individuals as test subjects.

Another City in China Locked Down
The PRC locked down Harbin after another outbreak, allegedly caused by a returning NYU student.

Our Glorious Leader is telling people to cure the virus by injecting disinfectant into their bodies.

*sigh*That clown just doesn't know when you stop making fool out of himself. Sad thing is there are people that are stupid enough to believe everything he says.

He never told people to inject themselves with disinfectant. It was stupid, but not that stupid.
Right. And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that. So, that, you’re going to have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds — it sounds interesting to me.
Also in the same briefing:
It wouldn’t be through injection. We’re talking about through almost a cleaning, sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t work. But it certainly has a big effect if it’s on a stationary object.
There are ways to make that make sense, but I think he just rambled and misspoke or he had a Biden moment. Either way, what he literally said was stupid, and he should be either smarter or more careful, but he never told anyone to inject themselves, any more than he told people to drink fish tank cleaner.
