whelp .-.
Not "postponed" not "switched to voting by mail", just...completely cancelled the presidential primary. I guess they can just do that! Not like that undermines the democratic process in any way or makes the party look back in a time where they need every vote they can get or sets a horrifying precedent!

I'm sorry, who was going to destroy democracy again?

Well, I suppose the real problem with the United States is that two parties have become so large the only way you can actually accomplish anything is to secure the support of at least one of them. In a functional (or at least semi-functional) multi-party system, the nomination process is irrelevant because the general election has sufficient diversity of opinion on the ballot.

This is why two party system that USA has isn't good thing from perspective of democratic system and is only little better than one party system. Too bad mainstream media makes any other party rising to challenge big two impossible.TGLS wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 4:28 am Well, I suppose the real problem with the United States is that two parties have become so large the only way you can actually accomplish anything is to secure the support of at least one of them. Re: New York just fucking cancels its Primary
Primaries aren't elections to office, they're just what the political parties do to select their nominees. They are NOT official parts of our electoral process. So they're being canceled, oh well.
Re: New York just fucking cancels its Primary
OK... but haven't the nominees already been decided? Of course the Republicans are going to put forward Trump, and even Sanders has thrown in the towel and has endorsed Biden. Sure you're losing a bit of an opportunity for symbolic gesturing, but given the choice between that and risking the spread of infection this doesn't seem like a horrible decision.
Re: New York just fucking cancels its Primary
Technically no, those are decided at the party conventions. The delegates to the convention are determined by the Primaries and Caucuses. I don't know how that effects things, but after seeing the GOP risk people's lives to force on through in Wisconsin, New York wasn't going to chance it.

I don't see much turnout for anyone other than Biden. I'm assuming Trump for Republicans.

Re: New York just fucking cancels its Primary
Except it's not a choice between spreading infection or not! There's a thing called "vote by mail!" It still affects how delegates are allocated, and there's a little thing called right in votes. Even if there's only one likely candidate, you still have a thing called write-in votes, Bernie is still technically on the ballot, and like...cancelling elections is...bad? It's disturbing?Edvarius wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 6:32 pm OK... but haven't the nominees already been decided? Don't just "oh well" this!
