Do you fully believe Tamar Rice actually had a toy gun? Do you think the police cared? Do you think police use toy guns as an excuse to murder, and carry weapons and contraband to place on bodies? If you don't, can you explain all the evidence we have of police doing exactly that?
Why are you trying to justify the shooting of a child over protesting the police literally planting evidence? Why does it strike you that justifying the murder of a 13 year old is more important than dealing with the fact that the police are literally using planted weapons as a method to murder people and get away with it?
Yes, clearly. A bigger fact is that BLM is about far more than bodycams. Bodycams are pretty much a distraction in many respects. Without systemic reform, all that will happen is that Bodycams will malfunction at critical junctures, or evidence will be faked. We already have one cop convicted of planting evidence because he misunderstood how his body cam worked. How many non-morons do you think tried this and got away with it, "discovering" the evidence on body camera, evidence that was planted while the camera was off (proof: https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/crime/bs-md-ci-pinheiro-ruling-20181109-story.html)
Body cameras are only a band aid on a gaping wound. There's a lot more that needs to be done.

Resisting arrest is very hard to do in today's hyper-fueled paranoid climate. Where police outreach makes the news, so we trust the system even less than we used to. You got African-Americans as well as Caucasians afraid the police will shoot them when they've thrown their arms up and are unarmed, which there are a few documented cases for, so it's just easier to flee than to surrender. I mean, that somebody is running is no proof they are guilty, at least for whatever the cops are shaking them down for. They could have, to use an example, illegally torrented thousands of pirate files, and are scared for that reason or something else. Or have checked out questionable NSFW web sites. But do they really deserve death for that?
I also take umbrage with your contention that African-Americans are the ones committing such disproportionately high levels of crime. Seems more like a major flaw with high urban habitations to me, and I've lived in many such big cities. I always prefer the smaller cities that don't top more than a few thousand people. You could argue there is a higher representation of minorities there, but there is also the issue that Caucasians also commit said crimes. Honestly, I'm tired of this myth that black people commit higher crimes. When trust in the system and each other is that broken, how can we ever move forward into a brighter future?
Anyway, gotta head off to work. Just wanted to leave my two cents. Peace, out.

And yes, young blacks DO commit disproportionately high amounts of violent crime. Now, if you want to argue that's because of Fatherlessness, I'd agree. Young boys need older men to teach them to be good men.

Look up the statistics yourself if you don't believe me. I agree, most problems do stem from major city life and the urban lifestyle, but you can't deny young black men commit more crime than any other group in America. Not trying to point fingers with that statement, but if we want to fix the problem, we can't just say "Blacks are victims of racism" for all of our troubles. We need to also take responsibility as a people.

Black seems better in denoting distinction in identity within the overall group, but African American as a term seems more formal assessments. Was Captain really using it wrong?

Okay then, cool.JoeThree wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 2:13 pmHa, appreciated, but need to apologize. I'm not offended, but just so you know, most of us prefer "Black" to AA. BLM's demands included, “An end to the mass surveillance of Black communities, and the end to the use of technologies that criminalize and target our communities (including IMSI catchers, drones, body cameras, and predictive policing software).”
I don't expect an apology. That would be unrealistic from such as you.
My reference to a toy gun was about the shooting of Tamir Rice. Police confronted him in response
to public complaints that he was pulling a gun out of his pants and pointing it at people. His gun later turned out to be an airsoft replica from which the orange tip had been removed.

But yes, seeing as #BlackLivesMatter is a Twitter hashtag, I'm sure you have a tweet that you can quote. Or something.
You know, let me give you one chance. My current opinion is that you are vapid trash, mentally and logically incapable of engaging in any discussion of issues beyond spouting out random nonsense to distract from the actual issues we were discussing. Ninty-nine times out of one hundred, when someone looks like a systemic issue like racism in America, police brutality, and the criminalization of skin color and comes out with a statement like "Black Lives Matter opposes body cameras!" they are deliberately derailing the discussion. But hey, maybe you are the one in a hundred who is just ill-informed and spouting off stuff others have told you without context. If you show me in your next post you have some semblance of honesty and dignity, I'll treat you as something other than the 99%.
As for Tamar Rice, are you aware that cops were convicted of planting toy guns on shooting victims: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/8xvzwp/baltimore-cops-carried-toy-guns-to-plant-on-people-they-shot-trial-reveals-vgtrn
I linked to one of the Black Lives Matter groups, who has a very well laid out section on police body cams and how they want them implemented (aka no facial recognition, no officers turning them off, etc.) As you can see, I linked to many more.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 4:23 pm Wait, which part is he lying about? That BLM doesn't want body cams?
He provided one unsourced quote that probably goes to some twitter post.
That said, that could have more to do with your area, in general, than any kind of arbitrary number on racial characteristics. I mean, I'm sure it plays some part, it always does in human interactions, but it seems more like a general city thing to me. And I hate the big cities.
I mean, I would sympathize to this idea that you shouldn't use racism or anything like that as a shield from criticism, but I'm also still a bit skeptical about figures like that. The methodology isn't precise, and it seems to be breaking down more than ever. Besides, mischaracterization originates from those pushing an agenda, no matter what political spectrum they shift toward. But who knows. I don't.

Did you not read where I mentioned that Tamir (not Tamar) Rice had been seen by multiple people as pulling a gun from his pants and pointing it at them? Or that that was the reason the cops were responding to him? Cops planting toy guns on people, I can believe. Cops using time travel, not so much. A massive conspiracy to get others to call in that he was pointing a gun so that cops could have an excuse to go kill a 12-year (not 13) old kid, also, not so much.
Just to be clear, my reference to Tamir Rice's untimely demise was not a response to your statement about cops planting toy guns. It was my example of shooting an unarmed person that I think justified.
As far as BLM being just a hashtag, hashtags don't get servers called "blacklivesmatter.com" or release statements to the media. These are the same ones that blamed the Pulse nightclub shootings on "anti-Black white supremacy, patriarchy and homophobia of the conservative right and of those who would use religious extremism as a weapon to gain power for the few and take power from the rest." They say crazy shit. People can be fighting for a noble cause without being noble people.
