She and a 75-year-old white woman, Vicki Sims, were found slain.
Surprisingly enough, the suspect does not appear to be a white supremacist. Neither are the men she accused of *raping* [correction: molesting] her.

Yeah. I mean it's ironic that Oluwatoyin Salau advocated for the survival of black men, defended black men, and then was raped and murdered by them. That's what I meant with "no good deed goes unpunished".

That's unfortunate.
Re: Oluwatoyin ‘Toyin’ Salau, Missing Black Lives Matter Activist, Found Dead
I guess what bothers me here is that had her murderer resisted arrest and then tried to kill the arresting officer, and the arresting officer shot him in self-defense, she would have taken her murderer's side against the cop.
So I have a hard time feeling entirely sympathetic here. I feel like she contributed to the social situation that led to her death.
To be clear, no one is defending Derek Chauvin. He is a murderer and should be in prison. But a lot of the "police kill unarmed black man" stories essentially amount to "we should have the right to resist arrest and to attack cops who try to arrest us." See: Rayshard Brooks.

What the fuck dude. You're victim-blaming a murdered activist?

You are damn right I am.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 2:05 am What the fuck dude. You're victim-blaming a murdered activist?
BLM goes far beyond looking for ways to reduce police brutality and in effect wants a policy of "criminals have a right to resist arrest and cops should not respond when assaulted or attacked." If one of Toyin's pet criminals turns on her, why should I not say that she deserves some of the blame?
If a mass shooting occurred at a gun rights rally, I doubt that most of the gun control-supporting commenters here would not say something to a similar effect.

Are you refusing to even consider they might've had a part to play because they were a victim? To reject what is euphemistically called "victim blaming" is to have a closed mind on a situation.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 2:05 am What the fuck dude. People shouldn't commit murder. This includes police with shiny badges.
She was working to make sure police couldn't get away with murdering black people. That doesn't make it a "gotcha" because some black men murdered her, especially because if you think the police would do anything useful to prevent a black woman from being murdered, then I have a bridge to sell you.

No one thinks that police should be able to get away with murdering black people. It's just that BLM believes that self-defense shootings (e.g. Darren Wilson shooting Michael Brown) are murder.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 12:57 am People shouldn't commit murder. Basically, BLM believes that if someone wants to use deadly or incapacitating force to resist arrest, the police should let them go.
