JK Rowling Backlash

This is for topical issues effecting our fair world... you can quit snickering anytime. Note: It is the desire of the leadership of SFDebris Conglomerate that all posters maintain a civil and polite bearing in this forum, regardless of how you feel about any particular issue. She's in the category of people who were considered progressive by the standards of the 1990s, didn't learn anything since, and doesn't understand why she's no longer being praised anymore. Sorta like Joss Whedon. (Although at least Joss Whedon didn't try to gain relevance with a series of increasingly desperate retcons).

As for stuff like Black Hermione, that was never really Rowling. The fandom created some stuff and she tried to retroactively take credit for it.

I agree totally. And lets be honest: Rowling is a woman who has had her ass kissed for 20 years now. Her every word probably garnered 10,000 Likes on Twitter minimum. She is not used to being on this side of the fence and probably does not know how to handle it. Unfriending Stephen King instead of just ignoring him really speaks volumes about her mental state.

Do you think they'll get past this?

I think by this point we should be at the very least beyond basic facts as a loaded objection to put your wedge on this issue.

I'm sure there's plenty of people that might get ahead of themselves with biological sex and gender dynamic dichotomies, but really the issue can be articulated a little past biological sex being a thing.

They are literally unpersoning her now

"The sites also announced they would refer to the author as #JKR on Twitter so fans can mute the hashtag and avoid seeing posts about Rowling from now on."

Well no shit. Fan sites and the stars of the Wizarding franchise have a vested interest in the franchise continuing to thrive, and that will quickly stop being true if the franchise about self-acceptance, embracing the misfits of society, and standing in the face of bigotry and fascism has an openly bigoted creator controlling it. Creating the perception of distance is a stopgap while people figure out if she can be disentangled from it.

But you said that it's OK to say discriminatory things if nobody gets hurt.

I think it's ultimately a fight over semantics. But some people are fragile enough that they'll get into an uproar over anyone having a different opinion.

Nobody gets hurt and demeaning/delegitimizing trans people are things that very rarely go hand in hand.
