Wow, i think this thread has gone off the rails. There is a lot we seem to be dealing with so I will try give a short summary of my responses to some of the posts.

That is, of course, assuming you are not confusing your morality with your own self-interest, which happens all to often.

Granted, that applies to me as much as the next person but it is why i ask the question 'how can you be sure you are not doing exactly the same thing you are accusing me of?' and half the time people act like i just told them i was a gold skinned giant from Venus or something.

Bad people can do good things. In fact, a lot of historically relevant bad people did bad things in order to do things that they considered good and which could be considered good in the grand scheme of things, obviously unless you are one of the casualties they caused.

Define 'democracy.' It's kinda funny that in 1789, when the constitution came into effect and we official became the 'United States of America,' about three-quarters of my graduating class would not be allowed to vote or even own property, along with about half of my instructors.

This sort of shit is just dishonest crappola. They knew enslaving other humans was wrong. They just didn't care. Look at how many hoops they had to jump through. The entire war was because they were afraid the north would abolish slavery. Why? Because it was fucking wrong. People had been writing anti-slavery tracts and fighting slavery since before Christopher Columbus discovered America.

A lot of them thought slavery was natural. Hell, that's been the most common attitude throughout history. Greeks and Romans had slaves. Native Americans had slaves. Africans had slaves. Some still do.

Where did I defend slavery? Where did I use "just following orders?" Where did I use "blood and soil?" The last would be a bit odd in a nation where I'm not indigenous.

When have I ever advocated for treatment that's different on account of race? I think racial bigotry is only that common on the side of the left nowadays. Ask Cmdr King about that; she's said bigoted things, stood by them, and, AFAIK, stands by them still. I want people treated according to their individual actions, and I don't think the good Lord planned to make life convenient enough that we come color-coded.

I'm not defending slavery, I'm just pointing out where you are wrong. I mean, some of the time. I already have a full-time job.

Was he right? No. I could go into detail (even civilized is wrong; central Africa had ancient cities), but the short version is that he was talking ex rectum. But his words and actions agree with each other.

Others used the bible as justification for slavery, or said that the slaves were better cared for than the poor in the north. You may not agree with slavery (I don't know, but I'm honest enough not to accuse you of it). I don't agree with slavery (one could argue semantics, e.g., "wage slavery," taxes, or a military draft, but I think "I don't agree with slavery" works for how most people would understand the term). But I can point out that some people agreed with slavery without myself defending slavery. I can point out that WW2 Germany or Soviet Russia killed a lot of people without defending death camps or Marxism.

Maybe understanding that is beyond you. Or maybe you're being as dishonest now as you have been in the past.
