you seem to misunderstand, I do not watch any right wing videos or the like, and I usually don't look for this stuff in general, I just have come across moderate conservatives, centrists and some liberals responding to SJWs on YouTube. perhaps I haven't seen enough of the other side to make a proper judgement but my point is that I do not blindly believe any political idea I hear, right or left.GreyICE wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 9:16 pm Fine, boiled down simply:
Why have you seen one, but not the other? Please read this website: https://www.joincampaignzero.org/solutions
What these are are actionable policy items, research telling you why the group believes they should beenacted, and why. I'm willing to bet a fair sum of money you've never seen them. But I'll also bet you've seen some ridiculous "this is what BLM supports" screenshot, twitter post, etc.

and this was a bad idea to talk on these threads at all but let me be clear one last time, my disabilities may have made me say things that gave the wrong impression of me but I am not a bigot.

though, one more thing. I was accused of looking at things in a black and white way and that but aside from the few reasonable ones I've came across(see, I don't generalize) the woke types seem to think it is completely impossible for them to be bigoted and thus, don't have to catch themselves if they are bigoted and if they are, "it's not really bigotry if it's against the majority".
my favorite movie is Zootopia. it teaches that anyone can be a bigot but they can also overcome it and it didn't have to portray every single police officer ever as evil to do it.

Don't worry, it's not you. People like GrayICE simply want you to agree with what they think and never push back. If you do, they will attack you and demand you capitulate. They assume the worst, that you are an evil that must be shown the light or destroyed.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 12:19 am and this was a bad idea to talk on these threads at all but let me be clear one last time, my disabilities may have made me say things that gave the wrong impression of me but I am not a bigot.
The best you can hope for is arguing with them until they give you a sarcastic "ok whatever" and/or no longer responding to you. It is the closest they will ever get to admitting they are wrong.

I'd say the overall effort to coordinate understanding of the issues comes to all types of challenges from the left establishment, right-wing, and/or non-political trolls. That's generally a source of pretentious behavior I think from the left, though I think that just comes down to human nature. Anybody can be subject to tribalistic and righteous behavior and be wrong.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 3:37 am though, one more thing. To me its kinda funny because I actually said 'times like this make me think Heinlein had the right idea.'GreyICE wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 5:28 pmI think the enduring popularity of Starship Troopers from people who have literally no idea what they're reading indicates there's a conservative market for "humans are awesome, fuck the aliens" Science Fiction. But we do seem to have already established that you believe "people are people" but you have zero ability to respect or empathize with other people or even consider their viewpoint as if it might have some validity as soon as it contradicts your own, so I don't even know why I'm writing this.

Well that's kind of disturbing. Starship Troopers is his fascist utopia. It's part of a series - The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is a libertarian utopia, and Stranger in a Strange Land is a communist utopia.phantom000 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 6:43 pmTo me its kinda funny because I actually said 'times like this make me think Heinlein had the right idea.'GreyICE wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 5:28 pmI think the enduring popularity of Starship Troopers from people who have literally no idea what they're reading indicates there's a conservative market for "humans are awesome, fuck the aliens" Science Fiction. If you find yourself uncritically going "that sounds like a good idea!" to any one of those three then you've had some issues in your analysis.

Or its a sign of just how bad the situation has become when one of them sounds like a better alternative. But yeah, i have issues with the Terran Federation as it is presented in the book, mostly because it allows the state to decide who can and cannot vote, which is one small step away from a fascist autocracy.GreyICE wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 6:49 pmWell that's kind of disturbing. Still, seeing these crowds want to pull down a confederate memorial or people saying we should demolish the Washington Monument, I can't help but wonder 'how many of them are actually combat veterans?'

It's not "one step away from a fascist autocracy". It's literally a fascist utopia. Heinlein is presenting fascism, and very deliberately.phantom000 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 8:27 pmOr its a sign of just how bad the situation has become when one of them sounds like a better alternative. You can't seriously read Starship Troopers then The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and tell me you think that the political views presented in both are both views that Heinlein holds, right? You have to be able to see that the two books are mutually contradictory, and that that's a good indication that the author is not presenting their views at all in EITHER book, right?
