The thing to understand is that Nick Cannon is that he's most likely going for a Black Hebrew Israelite statement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Hebrew_Israelites , so in this context he should be understood as saying "Black people are the REAL Jews and all these white Jews are colonizers!" or to that effect. He's not really talking about both white and Jewish people in his rant, but supposing that all white Jews are pretenders who should be condemned.

Because in the context of a power vacuum, when you're discussing the complementary dynamic of the two cultures in question, it's understood even by conventional historical economic principles that one side was exploited and disenfranchised for hundreds of years. And that's inseparable from the American institution, as slavery was both sanctioned by law and a crucial economic crutch so much that a war was fought on that fundamental.

That's the appropriate response to your question because that's what racism is specifically. It's not invalid to talk about racism in that context, and not in the context of simply "treating people unequally based on the color of their skin." The latter part is a different conversation, while racism as an 'ism or societal system concept starts with that historical fact above when you're talking about it as an American phenomenon.

also, I do realize there are problems in this country and am not against admitting that there may be some problems that have to be addressed with the police and society as a whole, I am simply against the generalizing and in my view, dehumanizing terms like "white privilege" and "All Cops Are Bastards" and the attitudes that go with them.
