Fair enough, but shit like this:
Is silly.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 5:26 pm It's double damning, as it suggests these things are bad, and inversely, suggests that non-whites lack these qualities.

I get it. I do.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 6:21 pmWhiteness isn't really so much about a human being being white, as it specifically refers to the dominant American culture, or maybe ethnic characteristic as outlined by history. And that happens to be white. It's a bit detached as far as precise color coding, further than that already is (white people aren't the actual color white). It is a bit reverse discriminatory, I guess you could say.McAvoy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 2:39 am There is alot on there that is shared by other cultures and not just the 'white' culture. Also there are so many white cultures that alot of these don't apply or barely apply.
I remember reading an article awhile ago that showed that majority of atheists are white and the largest religious ethnic group are blacks.
It doesn't really help that I'm not really aware of any caucasian minorities (fitting western european) across the world. I'm sure it exists, and maybe there's some domestic issues over there. But mainly whiteness is just focusing on domestic geography.
Take for example, Christian versus Judaism. Being a Jew is not just religion but also culture and its not limited to America but all over the world. Not to mention the different sects too.
To a smaller degree there is a difference in culture from let's say French and Italian to the Polish.
Almost but not quite like saying Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are the same.
I got nothing to say here.

Alright, I really wasn't able to follow. I recognize that I overexplained my point a bit; mainly that "whiteness" only refers to American dominant culture.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2020 1:01 amI get it. Really though I'm curious what you were referring to in the first place here.

'"Human rights" - the very name is racist'.
People really need to stop getting hung up on pigeonholing. And whilst it's true that there are certain characteristics and attitudes commonly shared in different societies (and societies within societies) some people really need to learn where to tread the line between acknowledging that and simply being simple-minded prejudiced based on it.

Bulls**t.
The point of this is to suggest that blacks are socioeconomically disadvantaged compared to whites in this culture because our culture rewards these things. With the dominant religion of equalitarianism, the obvious implication is that we need to value these things less in order to help blacks (or other low-performing minorities) succeed.
Which culture is by definition institutionally racist. These are just the prevailing concepts associated with what you would classify as "white" culture in the United States.
Basically, the message is that things like objective truth need to be de-emphasized in order to help blacks succeed. I'm not going to be "less sensitive" to that. Not unique to white people, not to spite other racial groups, but what is seen as a sort of "default" that many see as "normal" and may even look at as prescriptive, that if a person is not married by a certain age they are seen as abnormal, that a typical way of starting a conversation is "What do you do for a living".
You all need to stop being so sensitive to this kind of thing.

I don't think it's supposed to say anything about being black, it's just a way of saying that white culture is trite.G-Man wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 2:26 amBulls**t.

In the United States white people are treated as the default. They hold most elected offices (Disproportionately so), they have most of the wealth (Disproportionately so) and are generally in more powerful social positions.
They are a distinct group within American society.
This chart seeks to define what "White culture" is within that power dynamic, not to break it down, but to contextualize it. Knowing that the default cultural standpoint of "Individualism" is held high among white people within the United States helps to explain why white people often fail to see systemic racism, instead laying the blame on individual bad actors.
"The law doesn't say anything about the race of the person being punished for using crack instead of powder cocaine... so the law must not be racist... even tho, crack cocaine is used by black people more and is punished 20 or 100 times worse than powder cocaine use."
By saying it is an individual choice, they ignore how laws are written to capture and attack some groups more than others. "Well you shouldn't have been...."
The idea that identifying cultural norms that can be seen as part of the white power dynamic is by definition trying to demonize those norms is at best complicated, and is almost certainly going to lead to a lot of false equivalence of "If we tried to do this to (insert minority group) people would call us racist".
And let's be clear, those people outside of the anthropology and sociology fields who try to make lists like this probably would be racist while doing it.
Consider the source, consider the context, consider the point.
Grow up.

It doesn't say that only whites have this, but it does call them out as characteristically white. It doesn't call them out as negatives, I agree, but it suggests that other people might be doing these things because they've been influenced by white culture.Rocketboy1313 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 6:32 pm Guys, none of this is listed as negatives.
