Whiteness (according to the National Museum of African American History and Culture)

They make it sound like these are traits that blacks don't and are incapable of possessing.

Yes.
It's not supposed to be a persuasive argument though; it's more of an inside joke -- it's satire.

What makes you think it's satire?BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 11:11 pmYes.

Because everything about it is what satire does. It's a sarcastic infographic that attempts to ridicule the conventional American dream.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 5:46 amWhat makes you think it's satire?BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 11:11 pmYes.

The pic is half conventional family career paths and the other half is pejorative idiosyncrasies exhibited by arrogant people. The behaviorisms aren't supposed to be exclusive to white people, it's just a matter of how egregious it comes off by a considerable circumstance.
Satire is kind of like Sci-Fi where it subverts something you're familiar with to give it perspective. The point of satire is to expose absurdity emphatically with exaggerated or hyperbolic focus. Thus we have a picture that encapsulates something you're familiar with in the form of traditional values and subverts that with inclusion of shameful behaviorisms with those values.

So the Museum of African American History and Culture is in the business of satire now? Stop giving it the benefit of the doubt. Even in your own description the "satire" falls apart, as those conventional family and career paths are equally derided as thos so called 'pejorative ideiosyncasies". The BLM movement itself has declared one of its goals to be the destruction of the nuclear family. Everything about this is perfectly in keeping with the postmodern left, and they want to destroy it all.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:11 pm The pic is half conventional family career paths and the other half is pejorative idiosyncrasies exhibited by arrogant people. You're obviously speaking from a different premise as to what BLM is, so I'm not sure what the point is of explaining how it's a satire if you're just going to define it by its failings or some hyperbolic reference. I've never seen one fucking bit of them defining family values and you're acting as if it's something center stage or a fundamental building block of its platform or directive. The social media left if anything doesn't give a fucka bout family reform unless it's the abandonment rates of gender curious teens by their families.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 4:36 pmSo the Museum of African American History and Culture is in the business of satire now? But anyway...
https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/
...Is a pretty concise story that most people were around for given that it explicitly states it was only 4 years ago when the movement began. It gave very basic key events that triggered public outcry along with the reason for themselves being something that exists in the form of an organized movement. In terms of protest, every sensible minded person recognizes this as standard operating procedure for activism, but its a certain number of people that see the riots and conflate them with the movement for reasons extraneous of what's printed there in that link.
Nobody in their right mind is about to put black civil rights on hold because of the acts of individuals. There's nery much reason to consider that the only organization calling attention to police brutality is orchestrating acts of vandalism and destruction, especially under the condition that it is largely established in the physical world as bumper stickers and sweatshirts aside from large stationary poster presentations and the very vocal call to reform on an institutional level (very basic 1st amendment rights practice). For instance, sympathizing with destruction or not doesn't hold a candle as far as people calling for reform for justice on recognized ground.

The first and only piece of sense in this thread. Good god.Rocketboy1313 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 6:32 pm Guys, none of this is listed as negatives.
These are just the prevailing concepts associated with what you would classify as "white" culture in the United States.
Not unique to white people, not to spite other racial groups, but what is seen as a sort of "default" that many see as "normal" and may even look at as prescriptive, that if a person is not married by a certain age they are seen as abnormal, that a typical way of starting a conversation is "What do you do for a living".
You all need to stop being so sensitive to this kind of thing.
It’s like people tell you cultures should be accepted and judged even if they’re different from yours. And you go “yes, I am magnanimous culture-free overgod who will grant the little people have culture, unlike my culture-free superiority.”
Then someone else tells you about your own culture and you’re like “oh noes I am above such petty mundanity as culture! It’s like your insulting me by saying I’m the same as everyone else!”
Find a chill pill. Some elements are admirable. Some elements are neutral. Some elements are kinda stupid. Some are gross. That’s culture. Your assumption you don’t have a culture and are better than everyone else is one of the gross ones by the by.
Like my god they go out of their way to list good things about white culture, be as fair and even handed as possible, and we have people reacting like this. Why. Christ. Why. Is it possible to discuss any fucking things without goddamn snowflakes reacting like this?Nealithi wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 11:53 am Please correct me if I am wrong.
But this is supposed to be a list of things wrong with white people?
Which if this is supposed to be all bad things.
people should not work hard.
Do not be self sufficient
Be irrational thinkers
And cap off with be impolite?
Like understand, all of these qualities are bad and good. Hard work is great! It can also lead to you neglecting your family, your personal development, and your empathy and compassion to throw yourself farther into work. Then it's not so great.
Being self sufficient is great! Until you need help, and don't have the tools to reach out for it. Want to know the suicide rate for white men in American culture, one of the groups that has the least tools to reach out for help? Yeah... not good. Lot of people swallowing gun barrels out there.
Etc. Traits are neither completely good or completely evil. A loss of nuance is one of the dangers of a very rigid "things must be one way" mindset. Self sufficiency must be good or evil! It cannot be both! But what if it is both? White culture must be good or evil, it cannot be both! But what if it does have aspects of both?
