Not only do colleges and universities tend to act as polling places, they also have organizations that actively encourage students to register to vote.

If it's high quality BS, certainly you'd support things that work in other countries, like same-day registration, automatic registration, extended polling periods (1-2 weeks), better public transit guides and more polling locations to make polling more open to people using public transit, pre-registration for 16 year olds, and high school civics courses that discuss voting, the various positions and measures that people can vote for, and the role of voting in our political proceedings.

Those would all be sensible measures, right?

That wouldn't be bad either, although it doesn't solve many of the problems of young voters, such as frequent relocations, that same-day registration solves. But hey, the goal is maximum voter engagement, lets do all of them!

Sure, as long as it's any photo ID, and IDs are made free to every citizen - no charge for giving people driver and non-driver licenses, no charge for photo IDs. Can we agree no fees to vote?

Sure, as long as it's any photo ID, and IDs are made free to every citizen - no charge for giving people driver and non-driver licenses, no charge for photo IDs. Can we agree no fees to vote?

Seriously, poor access to Photo ID is whole big issue in and of itself. If you ask me, we need to grit our teeth and set up a proper Federal ID system and stop relying on SSI numbers. Everybody gets a free Passport Card at age sixteen, maybe?

I like the idea of Federal ID! Afterwards we can install video cameras in our home too, so the NSA really doesn't have to do any work to violate our civil liberties. Should save plenty of money when they try to spy on us.

Good freaking grief. I'm not saying they put a chip in your hand or have your DNA on file from birth. We pretty much use SSI as a Fed. ID anyway (something it was NOT desighned for: https://youtu.be/Erp8IAUouus), so we may as well just give up the pretense. As for Licenses of any sort, though, that should stay state-based.

Isn't any ID issued from the DMV a Federal ID? Isn't our SSN a number given to us by the government?

Maybe a free ID solution isn't a big of a problem. Everyone gets a photo ID from the DMV since they are set up that way. Make it issued at 18. Maybe even set it up at high schools. First ID expires at 21. So you get a new one when you can smoke cigarettes and booze. Then 5 years after that.

But if we do that then military issued IDs should be used to allow 18 year Olds to buy smokes and booze but that is just me.
